Strategic Sourcing Manager
Job Description:
The Strategic Sourcing Commodity Manager will report to the Vice President of Strategic Sourcing and will be accountable for all sourcing strategies and implementation for commodity related direct material categories for Wastequip’s business units. Categories include steel, aluminum, and resin commodities. Steel commodities include sheet, plate, tubing, fabricated parts, pipe, angle, etc. Resin based commodities include Roto mold resins, Injection and Blow mold resins (both Prime and off grade), PCR and other related resins and resin products. The focus will be to manage inventory and ensure cost efficiencies, product quality, innovation and the most effective supply chain models to service Wastequip holistically.
This job is located onsite at our corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
Responsibilities
- Leverage companywide spend in all commodity related spend categories by performing strategic negotiations with suppliers
- Monitor and present weekly/monthly/quarterly steel and resin market conditions, commodity indices, supply-demand dynamics, tariff impacts, and industry trends to proactively identify risks and cost savings opportunities
- End to End accountability and interface for defining and executing category and supplier strategy with stakeholders and cross functional team to meet performance and procurement deliverables
- Deliver category annual Total Cost of Ownership reductions per the sourcing annual plan
- Develop commodity forecasts and sourcing recommendations for Operations, Finance, Sales, and Executive Leadership to ensure product availability
- Lead supplier business reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
- Design and execute complex multi-site sourcing initiatives, including RFP development, supplier evaluation, commercial negotiations, implementation planning, and savings realization
- Tracking KPI’s for procurement performance against inflation/deflation trends
- Example: Inflation Avoidance % vs Market and versus Index, Deflation Capture Rate
- Manage risk and minimize financial risk by establishing supplier business continuity plans
- Reduce lead times for related products to minimize changes in commodity pricing
- Negotiate long-term agreements with best price, payment terms, quality levels, and delivery terms for purchased commodity-based products in compliance with corporate objectives
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of strategic sourcing, category management, or commodity management experience in steel, polymers, metals, or industrial manufacturing environment
- Project Management and/or Operations experience preferred
- Sourcing of materials, products, and components. Experience with products/components, and subcomponents for the waste equipment (or similar industry) is preferred
- Demonstrated experience successful “Make Vs Buy” analysis resulting in cost savings
- Experience in identifying and prequalifying new suppliers
- Demonstrated expertise negotiating agreements tied to commodity indices including CRU, AMM, CMA, MWPE, OPIS, ICIS, or similar market benchmarks
- Experience leading supplier negotiations exceeding $10M in annual spend.
- Knowledge of tariffs, duties, and import / export regulations to assure compliance and minimize costs
- Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Engineering or Supply Chain
- Experience operating successfully with metrics and a high degree of organizational agility
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, ERP systems, and spend analytics tools
