Pay Rate: $10-$15/hr based on experience

Job Description:

  • The ECS IT Support group seeking a motivated and technically skilled student worker to assist the IT support group within the School of Engineering & Computer Science. This individual will help to design, and implement back-end database-driven web systems to help improve operations and academic processes along with providing general IT support for the School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain PHP-based web applications to improve departmental processes.
  • Develop user interfaces that are functional, intuitive, and accessible.
  • Test and debug applications to ensure reliability, performance, and security.
  • Participate in project planning meetings with supervisor and IT Support staff.
  • Follow institutional data security and privacy requirements when working with student and academic information.
  • Maintain version control and software development best practices.
  • Provide general IT support and troubleshooting when requested.
  • Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive information and data.
  • Assist with various projects, activities and tasks related to business operations
  • Ability to comply with University policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance

Required Qualifications:

  • Current student with demonstrated experience in:
    • Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field.
    • SQL database design and querying.
    • PHP, HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MySQL, MariaDB, or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with database normalization and relational database concepts.
  • Experience using Git or other version control systems.
  • Knowledge of web application security principles.
  • Experience developing applications in a Linux or Windows server environment.
  • Familiarity with API integration and data exchange formats such as JSON or XML.
  • Prior experience working on academic, research, or administrative software projects.

Physical and Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office and computer-based work.
  • Flexible scheduling around class commitments.
  • Ability to drive on behalf of Baylor University

*Preference is given to students who qualify for Federal Work Study
