Support Worker

Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Worker to join our dedicated team in Clydach, working up to 39 hours per week.

In this role, you will support three gentlemen to build independence, enjoy new experiences and feel part of their community – helping them to live happy, fulfilling lives.

You will need to hold a full UK driving licence for this role and be confident providing personal care.

The service is a friendly, autism-accredited Supported Living service, where you will have the opportunity to make a real difference every day. You will be supporting three gentlemen, each with their own unique personalities, interests, preferences and support needs. They are looking for caring, patient and enthusiastic Support Workers who will take the time to get to know them, share their interests and encourage them to make their own choices.

The gentlemen enjoy keeping active and getting out into the community. Swimming is a particular favourite, with regular visits taking place two to three times a week. They also enjoy going for walks, shopping, bowling and visiting places such as Plantasia and wildlife parks. They value opportunities to get out and about, enjoy new experiences and take part in activities that are meaningful to them.

Everyday life is just as important, and support will include personal care, preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner, and getting involved in household tasks. The team takes an active support approach, working alongside the gentlemen and encouraging them to participate in everyday activities, develop their skills and build confidence and independence.

The gentlemen have a range of complex support and health needs, including epilepsy. Two communicate non-verbally, while one uses limited verbal communication. Getting to know each person, understanding how they communicate and recognising their individual wishes, needs and preferences is essential. Being patient, observant and responsive will help ensure everyone feels listened to, valued and involved in decisions about their lives.

The gentlemen value staff who are positive, caring, understanding and engaging. They are looking for people who will build trusting relationships, respect their individual routines and preferences, encourage independence and support them to enjoy meaningful activities. Most importantly, they want Support Workers who will work alongside them, promote choice and control, and help them live life to the fullest.
