About the role | Mō te tūranga:

We are looking for a Systems Engineer - Infrastructure to join Awanui Group's IT Shared Services team. Reporting to the Infrastructure Team Leaders, you will help provide reliable ICT services and support the technology our people use every day.

This varied, hands-on role covers computers, operating systems, applications, servers, phone systems, printers, and related technology. You will monitor and maintain systems, resolve user issues, support incidents and changes, document solutions, contribute to automation and upgrades, and work with internal teams and external partners. You will also contribute to ICT projects and participate in after-hours on-call support when required.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 80 hours per fortnight and is based in Christchurch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure and User Technology Support: Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain operating systems, applications, computers, servers, phone systems, printers, and related technology, with clear documentation.
  • Service Operations and Incident Resolution: Provide day-to-day support, manage requests through the ticketing system, resolve incidents and problems, coordinate with third parties, and complete reviews where applicable.
  • Monitoring, Automation, and Improvement: Monitor performance, assist with upgrades, automate processes where appropriate, and recommend technologies that could improve business effectiveness.
  • Change and Project Delivery: Prepare Requests for Change, participate in CAB meetings, contribute expertise to ICT projects, and work within Awanui's ICT strategy, policies, and standards.
  • Collaboration, Service, and Compliance: Build constructive relationships, advise users, work effectively with external partners, and meet quality, privacy, security, and health and safety requirements.

To be successful in this role you need to have:

You'll be a practical, customer-focused technology professional who enjoys solving problems and maintaining reliable services.

  • Experience in systems engineering, infrastructure support, desktop support, or a similar ICT role.
  • Hands-on capability with Active Directory, networking, desktop operating systems, Linux, Exchange Online, Remote Desktop Services, MECM, VoIP, and Windows Server.
  • Experience monitoring systems, resolving incidents, documenting solutions, supporting upgrades, and participating in change management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise urgent situations.
  • Clear communication skills, the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people, and a strong customer-service focus.
  • A relevant computing qualification is preferred. VMware, backup, firewall, database, Wi-Fi, remote-user support, and a full New Zealand driver licence would be advantageous.
