Job Description:

Role Overview

We are looking for a System Test Automation Engineer who is a software engineer at heart, with strong systems knowledge, sharp analytical thinking, and a passion for building scalable, automated quality frameworks.

This role focuses on validating complex, distributed software systems through automation, observability, and system‑level testing rather than manual or UI‑centric testing. You will analyze system behavior, reason about failure modes, and derive clear conclusions even when working with incomplete, ambiguous, or noisy data.

You will work closely with development, architecture, and platform teams to embed quality early in the lifecycle, design robust test frameworks, apply data‑driven quality insights, and prevent defects from reaching customers.

Key Responsibilities

Test Automation & Frameworks

• Design, develop, and maintain system‑level test automation frameworks for complex software platforms.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous validation.

• Own test infrastructure, frameworks, and tooling — not just individual test cases.

System‑Level Validation

• Build and execute regression, scale, stress, soak, and fault‑injection tests.

• Validate system behavior under real‑world conditions including high load, failures, and degraded states.

• Identify issues related to timing, concurrency, memory leaks, performance, and resource exhaustion.

Observability, Analysis & Debugging

• Leverage and enhance observability signals (logs, metrics, traces, counters).

• Apply analytical and logical reasoning to break down complex behaviors and isolate root causes.

• Use data‑driven analysis to detect regressions, identify trends, and surface systemic quality risks.

• Diagnose failures by clearly distinguishing test issues vs product defects.

• Work with developers to add testability hooks, diagnostics, and observability into the product.

Early Quality Engagement

• Participate in design and architecture reviews with a strong testability and quality mindset.

• Influence design choices to enable deterministic, scalable, and measurable testing.

• Shift defect detection earlier in the development lifecycle through proactive quality engineering.

Collaboration & Ownership

• Partner closely with development, release, and operations teams.

• Influence engineering decisions using clear data, analysis, and technical communication.

• Take end‑to‑end ownership of system quality for assigned features or platforms.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experienced Required:

  • Typically 8-10 years of work experience in Test Engineering

  • Bachelor's degree

Technical Skills

• Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or C++ (at least one at production depth).

• Proven experience building automation frameworks, not just test scripts.

• Solid understanding of Linux/UNIX fundamentals (processes, memory, networking).

• Familiarity with CI/CD systems and version control (Git‑based workflows).

• Experience testing complex, multi‑component, distributed systems.

Analytical, Testing & Systems Knowledge

• Strong analytical and logical thinking skills, with the ability to break down complex system behaviors and derive clear conclusions from incomplete or ambiguous data.

• Ability to apply data‑driven analysis to identify trends, detect regressions, prioritize quality risks, and influence engineering decisions.

• Deep understanding of system‑level testing concepts, including:

• Regression and longevity testing

• Fault injection and recovery

• Scale and performance testing

• Strong debugging skills across software layers.

We are not looking for traditional manual QA profiles.

This role requires strong software engineering depth combined with analytical rigor.

GenAI‑Assisted Engineering Practices

• Experience using GenAI‑assisted development tools (e.g., VS Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to improve productivity in coding, test development, analysis, and debugging workflows.

• Ability to effectively leverage GenAI for:

• Rapid prototyping of test frameworks and utilities

• Log analysis, test failure triage, and root‑cause exploration

• Improving code quality, readability, and maintainability

• Strong judgment in using GenAI tools as engineering accelerators, with a clear understanding of their limitations, validation needs, and appropriate use in production‑quality workflows.

We value engineers who combine strong fundamentals with modern AI‑assisted tooling — using GenAI to improve speed and quality without compromising rigor, correctness, or system understanding.

Preferred Skills

• Networking fundamentals (Firewall,L2/L3, TCP/IP, routing, congestion behavior).

• Experience with embedded systems, network operating systems, cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems.

• Familiarity with sanitizers, memory leak and corruption detection and diagnostic tools (ASAN, LSAN, TSAN, Valgrind, perf).

• Experience with observability stacks and telemetry systems.

• Prior SDET or platform quality engineering experience in large‑scale environments.

Why This Role Matters

This role directly impacts customer trust by preventing systemic failures and quality escapes. You will help transform testing from reactive validation into proactive engineering, shaping how quality is built into the system from day one.
