We are currently looking for a Tax Transformation Junior Solutions Architect within our Tax & Legal function in our Johannesburg office

Description of the role and purpose of the job\:

The Junior Solutions Architect plays a pivotal role in designing, governing, and delivering enterprise‑grade technology solutions and methodologies that will enable end‑to‑end tax & legal transformation. This role requires partnering closely with all the Tax & Legal business units within KPMG including the tax subject‑matter experts, technology teams, data teams, and business stakeholders to architect scalable solutions that streamline compliance, improve data quality and unlock automation, analytics, and digital reporting capabilities.

The successful candidate will be required to blend technology and design expertise with tax‑domain understanding to drive strategic modernisation across tax & legal processes, platforms and data flows.

Key responsibilities\:

Solution Architecture & Design

Assist with the architecture design and digital solutions for the different tax T&L BU’s including, inter alia, indirect tax, employees tax, customs, corporate tax, transfer pricing in relation to statutory reporting, legal and global tax data frameworks within the Tax & Legal Department.

Assist with the development of end‑to‑end solution architectures covering application, data, integration, automation, cloud infrastructure and security layers.

Create technical design documents, architecture diagrams and solution roadmaps.

Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements and technology governance frameworks.

Tax Technology Delivery

Assist with the design and guide implementation and integration of tax & legal technology solutions including inter alia\:

  • Integration with technology platforms such as ERP tax engines (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Microsoft D365)
  • Integration with compliance and reporting platforms (mainly Digital Gateway)
  • Design of data and analytics tools and methodologies (e.g Digital Gateway, Alteryx, PowerBI etc.)
  • Design with automation tools (Power Platforms, Alteryx, UiPath)
  • Support development and teams during build, testing, deployment and UAT phases.
  • Translate functional requirements into scalable technical specifications and solutions.

Data Architecture & Integration

Assist with the design of data models, data pipelines, and integration patterns across ERP, finance, legal and tax systems.

Assist with data quality, governance, standardisation and lineage strategies for tax & legal data.

Partnering with data engineering teams to implement efficient ETL/ELT workflows.

Stakeholder Engagement

Support the technology lead and team as the trusted technology advisor to the Tax & Legal leadership.

Facilitate architecture workshops and solution design sessions.

Communicate complex technology concepts in a clear and business‑friendly manner.

Strategic Transformation

Contribute to multi‑year technology strategy and platform modernisation.

Contribute to identifying optimisation opportunities through automation, analytics, AI and simplification.

Assist with future‑ready designs supporting digital Tax & Legal administration.

Skills and attributes required for the role\:

Skills\:

1 to 2 years in solution architecture, software engineering, or enterprise architecture.

Experience in delivering technology solutions within Tax, Finance, or ERP transformation programmes.

Understanding of tax processes (direct/indirect tax, tax reporting, provision, transfer pricing etc.).

Experience with one or more of the following\:

  • SAP or Oracle tax functionality
  • Cloud architecture (Azure/AWS)
  • Integration technologies (APIs, middleware, ETL tools)
  • Data modelling and SQL
  • Automation tools (Power Automate, UiPath, Alteryx)
  • Gen AI

Ability to create architecture diagrams (e.g., using Visio, Lucid chart, or Draw.io).

Experience with AI‑driven analytics, machine learning or modern data platforms.

Experience in professional services, consulting, or global multinational environments.
