Technical Authority – Naval Architecture

Join us as Technical Authority Naval Architecture on the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) project providing design and build of the River Class Destroyers (RCDs) to the Royal Canadian Navy.

As Naval Architecture Technical Authority you will exercise delegated technical authority over engineering aspects related to several naval architecture sub domains which is expected to include Hydromechanics, Weights, Outfit and EER. You’ll provide Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person advice and guidance to Engineering Delivery Teams and authorising all technical records and deliverables.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a critical role as delegated authority in a large, international project, while offering real breadth across sub-domains.

Your main responsibilities as Technical Authority – Naval Architecture will include\:

· Hold delegated Engineering Authority for Naval Architecture domains

· Liaise with T26 Project peers to understand residual issues affecting RCD and potential change drivers; and to maximise pull-through from T26 for RCD efficiency

· Liaise with HCF Project peers to understand common issues and approaches

· Leadership of BAE RCD Naval Architecture domain product safety and environmental activities

· Technical Lead for BAE RCD Naval Architecture domain engineering activities, including equipment/system specifications, Vendor Requirement Reconciliation (VRR), sentencing of Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) compliance and integration into the CSC platform

· Ownership of Naval Architecture domain SRDs and progressive acceptance activities, including vendor Design Reviews and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)

· Management of the Naval Architecture domain change process and vet of all IRs before advancement to CR and Change Board for necessity, completeness and accuracy

· Close liaison with RCD domain external customer stakeholders (Industry, Customer, Classification and Certification) on all technical issues requiring customer buy-in and acceptance, including attendance at relevant meetings and workshops

· Contribution to Project Engineering monthly reporting and engineering metrics, including system maturity

· Ownership of BAE Naval Architecture domain risks

· Attendance at Zonal Reviews to represent the Naval Architecture domain, including input to review packs and commentary on parts/system maturity, outstanding issues and risks

· Attendance at Project Design Reviews and associated Feeder Reviews, whether BAE Engineering Lifecycle (ELC)

· Chairing of technical bid reviews for customer Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs)

· Ownership of Certification Key Hazard Areas in relation to the Naval Architecture Domain

· Line management activities of direct reports.

Your skills and qualifications\:

· A degree in Engineering (or a related subject)

· Full membership of an appropriate engineering institution and be a Chartered Engineer (or actively working towards)

· Competent Safety practitioner, including safety assessment methods to Def Stan 00-056, ANEP-77 and/or Mil Std 882E

· Strong background in Naval Engineering design, qualification, certification and build

· Broad knowledge of naval and maritime engineering disciplines, standards and codes of practice

· Experience working within maritime product lifecycles including commissioning and integration

· Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary engineering teams and balancing conflicting requirements

· Experience in identifying where deep subject matter expertise is required and of evaluating the guidance provided.
