Technical Manager
- The main goal for this position is to help UL double our Medium and High Voltage (MVHV) cable services in Asian Pacific (AP) region within the next two years.
- The Technical Advisor will play an essential role in strengthening our team’s connection to customers across AP markets, including China, Korea, ASEAN, India and also, NA and Europe.
- This role will support the development of UL technical expertise within the team, providing guidance, training, and hands-on support to UL Engineering team to enhance capabilities in MVHV Business.
- This role will support business and customers strategy, advise on market analysis and service prioritization for leadership team to accelerate business growth.
- This role needs to enhance and advance a zero-incident safety culture and behavior. Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- This role may be requested to take the following technical tasks:
- Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
- Subcontractor inquiry, materials/equipment/personnel planning to meet job and project requirements.
- Support or perform witness testing in 3rd party laboratories and/or in customers facilities.
- Perform data analysis on the obtained testing data. Prepare technical reports and present their results to customers.
- Manage project schedules to ensure all the projects are properly processed, including quotation, execution, reporting and invoicing.
- Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
- This role may include frequent travel to visit customers and initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
- This role may represent UL on technical committees and/or industry-related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
- University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program.
- 20+ years of experience of working with/for MV/HV or high-power laboratories, MV/HV cable manufacturers, power utilities involving MV/HV cable systems, or relevant fields.
- Strong knowledge and experience in related industrial and international standards for MV/HV cable systems, including but not limited to ICEA/AEIC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE standards.
- Knowledge in high voltage testing technologies on power cables including high voltage withstand test, impulse test, load cycle test, dielectric loss test, partial discharge measurement, etc.
- Familiarity with high voltage safety requirements in laboratories and manufacturer plants. Commitment to safe operations and zero incident workplace.
