Technical Product Owner / Agile Delivery Lead
Salary: $140,000
About the role
The Technical Product Owner (TPO) / Agile Delivery Lead is an individual contributor role responsible for driving execution, strict delivery structure, and a predictable sprint cadence. Operating as a purely functional leader, this role acts as the tactical execution bridge between the Product Manager (who owns the strategic roadmap) and the engineering squad. This is an initial 6-month fixed-term contract with option to extend, aimed at stabilising delivery and rapidly uplifting the operational maturity of an engineering team transitioning from ad-hoc processes to structured Agile delivery.
Key responsibilities
Establish, facilitate, and enforce core Scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and Backlog Grooming) with a developing team.
Shift the team away from ad-hoc, reactive working styles toward structured, predictable, and measurable sprint commitments.
Proactively identify, track, and unblock delivery risks and operational friction points before they impact the sprint.
Document newly established ways of working, team agreements, and definitions of "Ready" and "Done" to ensure long-term operational sustainability beyond the contract period.
Partner closely with the Product Manager to ingest product requirements and translate high-level features into a well-structured, sequenced sprint backlog.
Facilitate and drive refinement sessions, ensuring high-level requirements are broken down into clear, development-ready user stories with functional acceptance criteria.
Maintain absolute hygiene in Jira. Manage team boards, ticket relationships, and dependency mapping to ensure the sprint is visually clean and accurate.
Manage delivery trade-offs aggressively to ensure sprint commitments are met without sacrificing quality, acting as a shield for the team against scope creep.
About you
5+ years' experience in Technical Product Owner, Agile Delivery Lead, or Scrum Master roles, with a proven track record operating as a contractor.
Demonstrated experience landing in low-maturity, chaotic, or un-structured engineering environments and rapidly establishing delivery structure, baseline predictability, and team trust.
Expert-level capability in structuring Jira/Confluence to track workflow, manage cross-team dependencies, and output baseline delivery metrics.
Comfortable working alongside engineers and tech leads to facilitate estimation and task breakdown.
Ability to command respect, manage stakeholder boundaries, and exercise functional leadership without formal authority from day one.
Relevant Agile certifications (CSPO, PSPO, CSM, PSM) - desirable.
Prior experience working alongside a separate Product Manager in a dual-track strategy/execution model - desirable.
