Technician – Field Service
As a Technician – Field Service within NOV’s Rig Aftermarket (RA) Team, you will be responsible for the service, repair, inspection, maintenance and fault-finding of NOV Rig equipment across offshore, onshore and workshop environments.
Based in Baku, Azerbaijan, you will support customers and projects in and around Baku and across the wider Caspian region, including Kazakhstan. You will also support activities at the local NOV workshop as required.
Working as part of the Field Service team, you will provide hands-on technical support to ensure NOV equipment operates safely, reliably and efficiently. You will work closely with customers, fellow Technicians, Service Engineers and other NOV teams to identify and resolve equipment issues while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
The role requires flexibility to travel globally, locally and regionally on an ad-hoc basis according to business and customer needs. Field assignments may typically range from three days to three weeks.
- Service, repair, overhaul, inspect and identify faults on NOV Rig Equipment on a global basis
Support I&C projects as required
Make recommendations on improving product and systems efficiency, maintaining continuous and high levels of operation
Report and update relevant documentation including daily reports, survey reports, parts lists and service reports
Read and interpret engineering drawings/schematics to identify and correct faults, redline drawings/schematics
Collaborate with key stakeholders including Customers, Colleagues and other NOV entities
Escalate key faults or product failures to relevant department and progress through to resolution
Maintain effective communication with customers giving regular status update reports
Promote HSE plans and support the continuous developing of internal policy
Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and customers
Inspects NOV equipment for conformance with operational standards
Respond to emergency calls for Rig Down situations when required
Collaborate with management, engineering, quality and HSE personnel to resolve problems with NOV equipment and recommend measures to improve the operation and condition of the equipment
Where necessary, liaise closely with other operational teams to ensure continuous improvement of all systems and processes.
Keep up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all HSE legislation and any developments that affect our industry
Advise customers on the maintenance and upkeep of their NOV equipment as per the various manuals, Product Information Bulletins (PIB) drawing revision changes, software updates etc.
Carry out fault finding, repair and recommendations in a timely manner without compromising safety or quality
Be aware of and adhere to HSE requirements whilst working on both onshore/offshore installations
Support other departments and carry out other duties as and when business requirements dictate as may be reasonably expected
Travel when required on an ad-hoc basis as and when dictated by business/customer need
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5–6 years of relevant technical experience, preferably within Field Service, offshore operations, drilling equipment, mechanical equipment or a similar industrial environment.
- Previous experience as a Service Technician, Field Service Technician or in a comparable hands-on technical role.
- Relevant technical certification applicable to the Technician role is preferred.
- Practical experience in equipment inspection, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and fault-finding.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Previous offshore experience is preferred.
- Strong commitment to HSE, quality and safe working practices.
- Ability to work independently at customer locations and effectively as part of a Field Service team.
- Strong customer focus and effective communication skills.
- Flexibility to undertake offshore and regional assignments, typically ranging from three days to three weeks.
- Azerbaijani and English language skills are required; Russian is preferred.
