Description

The School of Art & Art History at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Printmaking, with an anticipated start date of August 2027.

The successful candidate, in line with the performance expectations of an R1 AAU institution, will maintain an active record of high-impact creative research at the national or international level. We seek an artist-educator with an established artistic practice centered in printmaking whose work contributes to advancements in the discipline, a strong teaching record, and a dedication to maintaining the printmaking studios as safe, well-equipped spaces for learning and making. We are particularly interested in candidates working in innovative processes, whether through new approaches to traditional techniques, digital and hybrid methods, expanded and sculptural forms of the print, sustainable and non-toxic practices, or collaborative and publishing models. The candidate’s research agenda should articulate a forward-looking vision for printmaking within the School of Art & Art History, expanding the program’s reach through innovative, cross-disciplinary, and community-engaged initiatives.

Printmaking at USF sits within one of the most distinctive print environments in the country. The College of Design, Art & Performance is home to the world-renowned Graphicstudio, which since 1968 has invited leading contemporary artists to collaborate with master printers on innovative limited-edition prints and sculpture multiples. Its recent projects have entered the collections of institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. The ideal candidate will engage deeply with printmaking as a critical and evolving medium within contemporary art, grounded in its traditions while embracing new technologies and expanded approaches to the multiple, and will contribute to the dynamic curriculum of the School’s undergraduate and graduate programs.

This position offers a rare opportunity to shape the future of a print program. The successful candidate will serve as a key link between the School of Art & Art History and Graphicstudio, engaging with its master printers, visiting artists, and programming, and creating pathways for students to learn alongside professional collaborative printmaking. Working with School faculty, Graphicstudio, and the USF Contemporary Art Museum, “CAM”, the candidate will help bring studio teaching, collaborative production, exhibition, and research into closer conversation. We are looking for a visionary colleague who will help us expand our printmaking program and establish USF as a destination for printmaking education and innovation.
