Test Automation Engineer
Summary
Designs and maintains automated UI and API tests for a European Commission project in Brussels, using Selenium, Java/TypeScript, and CI/CD pipelines.
Currently, for one of our Partners, we are looking for an experienced Test Automation Engineer (m/f/n) to support a long‑term project delivered for an organization of the European Commission based in Brussels.
Tasks:
Design, prepare, and monitor automated tests for web user interfaces.
Develop and maintain robust, scalable, and reusable test automation frameworks based on Selenium WebDriver, with supporting libraries (TestNG, JUnit, Cucumber).
Build and maintain page object models and other UI abstraction patterns for readable, maintainable test code.
Evaluate front-end automation tooling for best fit with the digital solution, applying a DevSecOps approach.
Create an approach and methodology for browser-based test automation architecture, including cross-browser and cross-device coverage.
Enable the transition from manual UI testing to automated regression suites.
Integrate automated UI tests into the CI/CD pipeline to provide fast feedback on front-end build quality.
Create automated test reporting and metrics collection.
Collaborate with manual testers, UX designers, and developers to identify automation opportunities and promote a shift-left testing mentality.
Contribute to the development of a plan to integrate automated front-end testing within the overall testing process.
Complement UI test coverage with API-level checks using Postman or RestAssured.
Occasionally participate in backend integration testing efforts, including complex service orchestration or message exchange, providing a full end-to-end perspective.
Requirements:
3 years of experience with Selenium WebDriver.
3 years of experience building and maintaining UI test automation solutions.
3 years of experience in Java or JavaScript/TypeScript for writing robust, maintainable front-end test scripts.
2 years of experience with defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira, Zephyr).
2 years of experience with version control (e.g., Git).
Experience with the key standards around which eDelivery is built on: OASIS ebMS3, AS4, SMP, BDXL and ebCore PartyId and the eDelivery profiles thereof (eDelivery AS4 profile, eDelivery SMP profile, eDelivery BDXL profile and eDelivery ebCore PartyId profile) - (profiles with more than 1 year of experience will be evaluated more favourably).
Experience with integrating Selenium-based test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Bamboo, GitLab CI) - (profiles with more than 1 year of experience will be evaluated more favourably).
Experience with test data management for UI scenarios, including environment setup, fixture data, and state reset strategies.
Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
Experience with API testing tools (e.g., SoapUI, Postman, RestAssured).
Experience working in an international/intergovernmental organisation or central national administration (e.g., European Institutions or other large public administrations).
Experience preparing structured and comprehensive test reports.
Experience reading and interpreting technical specifications, API contracts (OpenAPI, WSDL), and message format standards to derive meaningful test cases.
English skills: B2 with strong written and oral communication skills

Mostly remote set-up. Services must be performed from within the EU. Two physical meetings with the customer are foreseen per 12-month period, max 2 days each. These planned meetings are at the contractor’s cost.
