As a recognized leader in engineering, planning, and design services, BETA Group, Inc delivers transformative transportation solutions across the Northeast. With a legacy of technical excellence, innovation, and integrity, we are proud of the communities that we help build in meaningful, sustainable ways. We are seeking to add a detail-oriented and experienced Traffic Project Engineer to join our growing team.

As a Traffic Project Engineer, you’ll play a key role in solving complex traffic challenges and enhancing mobility across urban, suburban, and rural communities. You’ll have the opportunity to influence every phase, from conceptual planning to final design and construction support. The ideal candidate will support a variety of projects; from corridor studies and signal design to traffic impact assessments and multimodal analysis. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile initiatives that improve safety, reduce congestion, and support smart growth in the New England region. In addition to technical responsibilities, this role includes mentoring and supporting junior engineering staff, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth within the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct traffic engineering analyses including capacity, signal timing, crash analysis, and level-of-service evaluations using industry-standard tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, HCS)
  • Develop traffic control, signal, and signing/striping plans in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines (MUTCD, AASHTO, MassDOT/ConnDOT/RIDOT, etc.)
  • Prepare technical reports, traffic impact studies, and documentation for public and agency review
  • Coordinate with DOTs, MPOs, and municipalities on permitting, approvals, and stakeholder engagement
  • Uphold QA/QC processes
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and best practices in traffic operations, safety, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, highway, environmental, and structural engineers
  • Apply your technical expertise and support during project development, permitting, bidding, and construction phases
  • Uphold project schedules, budgets, and deliverables under the guidance of a project manager
  • Conduct site inspections, prepare technical reports, and liaise with municipal agencies, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Act as a professional ambassador for BETA, cultivating and sustaining client relationships
  • Assist with proposal development and business development initiatives as needed
  • Mentor junior staff and support quality assurance/quality control efforts

Preferred location is BETA’s Manchester office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Growth Opportunities:

  • BETA encourages and promotes employee advancement and career development
  • Leads to potential advancement to more senior technical positions and project management
