Transit Driver - Part Time
Summary
Drives public transit buses in Wadena County, collecting fares, assisting passengers, and ensuring safe, on-time service while complying with transit regulations.
Applicants must possess a valid Class C CDL w/ a passenger endorsement OR the ability to obtain one. Friendly Rider will pay for training and required certifications. Wage range is dependent upon an applicant's possession of a Class C CDL - ($18.52 - $25.25 without a valid CDL & $20.19 - $27.52 with a valid CDL.) Wage will increase upon acquisition of required licensure.
The Transit Driver transports passengers for the County Public Transit Program. Ensures the efficient and timely delivery of public to their destination, while maintaining compliance with all laws, rules and regulations established by federal, state and local transportation regulations.
Driver
- Collects fares, tokens, or passes from passengers.
- Assists passengers as needed.
- Perform bus safety pre-check and post-check daily logs according to federal law.
- Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections and reports needed repairs.
- Operates miscellaneous bus equipment including a lift.
- Operate the buses for scheduled activities i.e. out‐of‐town routes, summer rec, medical trips.
- Operates a two-way radio system and cell phone, keeping in contact with main office.
- Operates bus tablets for use of dispatching software.
- Is familiar with the policies and procedures in Friendly Rider Transit’s “Drivers Manual.”
- Insures the efficient and timely delivery of public to their destination.
- Completes daily trip sheets and all other paperwork accurately and completely.
- Interacts with the public, transit staff, and other transit providers in a professional manner.
- Participates in mandatory drug and alcohol testing and reporting requirements
- Protects the confidentiality of information according to the Minnesota Data Practices Act and agency policy and procedures.
- Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of bus.
- Attends work-related meetings and training with co-workers, unit, and supervisor as necessary.
- Attends required State driver training.
- Abides by all policies and procedures as outlined in the WCSSD Policy and Procedures Manual, as well as applicable rule/statute.
- Promotes team effectiveness (transit program, agency) by cooperative interaction with all entities.
- A DOT physical is required, as is proof of a safe driving record. The DOT physical is required every two years and a copy of the driving record is required annually on the anniversary of employment.
