We are seeking a talented individual to join our Client Management team at Marsh Risk. This role will be based in London or Norwich. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
As Manager of the Translations Department, you will work closely with the Regional Head of Client Management to lead our translation function, ensuring high-quality, timely and cost-effective delivery of translations into English to the business. In this pivotal role you will provide operational leadership, quality oversight and continuous improvement. You will manage a team of Translation Specialists and a Translations Project Co-ordinator.
Lead and develop a team of Translation Specialists to provide the business with high-quality, timely and cost-effective translations from French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch into English.
Your Responsibilities
Provide daily leadership and management of your team, fostering a mindset focused on adding value to both colleagues and clients.
Manage and prioritise demand and capacity planning to meet deadlines and maintain service levels.
Own quality standards, terminology and style guidance; implement review/QA processes.
Oversee end-to-end delivery for key programmes and high-impact communications.
Partner with stakeholders to scope requests, agree timelines, manage expectations and provide advice.
Manage translation tools and processes (e.g., CAT tools, termbases) and drive adoption/optimisation.
Own and track key KPIs (turnaround time, quality metrics, capacity, cost) and drive insights, risks and mitigation actions.
Support vendor management where applicable (briefing, SLAs, evaluation, quality reviews, invoicing checks).
Work with large language models to help develop the industry standard
What You’ll Need
Native English speaker with strong translation expertise, including translating into English from at least two of: French, German, Spanish.
Growth mindset and translations industry awareness
Proven experience leading operations and managing people (including performance management and development).
Strong understanding of translation QA, terminology management and style consistency.
Experience with translation technology (CAT tools) and workflow optimisation.
Excellent stakeholder management skills; confident influencing and communicating with clarity.
IoL DipTrans, MA in Translation, or a primary modern languages degree with a significant translation element (or equivalent experience).
What Will Make You Stand Out
In-depth knowledge of the insurance/reinsurance industry
Use of Wordfast and / or Trados and / or MemoQ
Strong transformation or strategic skills; comfortable managing multiple projects and competing deadlines.
Analytical mindset with experience using data to drive improvement.
