Description

VP of Finance

Connectbase | Westborough, Massachusetts

Reports to Chief Operating Officer

The opportunity

Connectbase is hiring a Vice President of Finance to own financial planning, analysis and commercial finance, reporting to the COO. You will complement a strong accounting team led by the Controller with deep FP&A expertise and hands-on operating partnership. You will translate the growth strategy into an executable financial plan that improves recurring revenue growth, retention, gross margin, EBITDA and cash generation, and you will build the models, analysis and reporting.

Connectbase is the operating system for how the connected world transacts. Our software and data help network providers, partners and enterprise buyers discover, quote, order and manage connectivity. As a private equity-backed B2B SaaS and data platform, we need financial insight that improves execution across recurring subscriptions, usage and transaction revenue.

Financial planning and analysis

  • Own the annual operating plan, long-range plan and rolling forecast. Maintain an integrated income statement, balance sheet and cash flow model with clear assumptions, accountable owners and base, upside and downside scenarios.
  • Translate pipeline conversion, bookings, implementation timing, customer activation, renewals, churn and expansion into ARR, revenue, gross margin, EBITDA and cash forecasts. Track the bridge from signed contract through implementation, activation, billing and collection, quantifying delayed revenue, earned but unbilled revenue and outstanding customer delivery obligations and delivery costs.
  • Partner with the COO to run cross-functional performance reviews and quarterly reforecasts. Connect leading indicators to financial results, challenge assumptions and drive corrective actions with accountable owners, deadlines and tracked impact on growth, retention, gross margin and profitability.
  • Establish consistent definitions and reconciliations for annual recurring revenue, gross and net revenue retention, bookings, backlog and revenue. Distinguish organic performance from acquired growth and reconcile operating metrics to financial reporting.
  • Own profitability analysis by product family, customer segment, revenue model and acquired business. Apply consistent shared-cost allocations and track new sales, renewals, expansion and cross-sell economics, including hosting, data, implementation and support costs.
  • Deliver concise management, board and sponsor reporting that explains performance, forecast changes, risks and decisions. Partner with the COO and CEO on materials and presentations.

Operating partnership

  • Partner with department leaders on budgets, hiring and capacity plans. Model productivity, utilization and cost to serve so staffing and spending match demand, delivery commitments and available cash.
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Success and Revenue Operations on pipeline quality, sales capacity and compensation economics. Analyze churn and contraction by cause, customer cohort and product, alongside expansion and cross-sell, to improve retention and growth.
  • Evaluate product, technology and operational investments using expected returns, milestones and sensitivities. Review results after approval and recommend whether to accelerate, adjust or stop spending.

Commercial finance and cash management

  • Provide financial analysis for pricing, discounting, strategic deals and renewals. Assess implementation effort, ongoing service costs, payment terms and margin before commitments are approved under company authority limits.
  • Model subscription, usage and transaction pricing, partner revenue shares and marketplace economics. Help leaders balance growth, customer value and sustainable contribution margin.
  • Own a rolling 13-week cash forecast, liquidity monitoring and working capital plans. Improve billing accuracy and collections, manage receivables aging and provide early warning of cash risks.
  • Own day-to-day banking and lender relationships, timely lender reporting and covenant calculations. Monitor headroom and downside scenarios, escalate risks promptly, and support the COO and CEO on financing and capital decisions.

Accounting partnership and controls

  • Rely on the Controller, who leads GAAP financial reporting, day-to-day accounting, reconciliations and the monthly close, targeting completion within seven business days. Review the results, raise questions and make sure financial reporting supports planning and forecasting.
  • Partner with the Controller on revenue recognition under ASC 606, deferred revenue, contract liabilities and multi-entity consolidation, so subscription, usage and transaction arrangements receive appropriate accounting treatment and the forecast reflects it.
  • Support the Controller on the control environment, approval authorities and segregation of duties across billing, collections, purchasing, payments, expenses and payroll. Work with the Controller, auditors and tax advisors on financial inputs and analysis; the Controller owns audit and tax delivery.
  • Maintain reliable connections among CRM, contracts, billing, ERP and product usage data. Improve planning, reporting and reconciliation through automation and AI, with review controls and protection of sensitive information.

Acquisitions and integration

  • Own the financial workstream for acquisitions, including diligence, valuation models, revenue quality, working capital, purchase accounting and integration planning. Partner with the COO, CEO, sponsor and advisors; transaction strategy and approval remain with leadership and the board.
  • Drive the finance side of post-close integration, including reporting definitions, budgeting and performance tracking, working with the Controller on chart of accounts, controls and systems. Track integration spending, synergies and performance against the investment case.

How you work and accountability

Work as an individual contributor with no direct reports. Build on the existing accounting team's strengths and preserve the Controller's ownership of accounting execution. Spend your time on FP&A, operating analysis, cash and capital, producing the models and analysis yourself rather than directing a team.

Partner with the COO and the HR Manager on workforce planning and compensation economics, using specialist support for employment and compliance matters.

Report to the COO, with standing participation in Board and Audit Committee meetings. Share accountability for company performance with the leadership team. Own financial analysis, forecast integrity, constructive challenge and follow-through; functional leaders own execution within their teams. Maintain reporting integrity and promptly escalate material financial or control concerns.

Experience and capabilities

  • 10 or more years of progressive finance experience, including at least three years in a senior finance role with accountability for FP&A and a working understanding of accounting, such as VP, Head of Finance, Finance Director, senior FP&A leader or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated success owning budgets, rolling forecasts and integrated financial models in a B2B SaaS, subscription software or data business. Strong command of recurring revenue, retention, deferred revenue and cash conversion.
  • Demonstrated improvements in forecast accuracy, cash conversion, margin or finance productivity. Can explain how customer behavior, pricing, delivery capacity, product investment and headcount affect growth, margin and cash.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills and practical experience connecting CRM, ERP, billing and planning data. Comfortable building models and investigating discrepancies personally.
  • Sound knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition and controls, with the judgment to partner with a strong Controller and experienced accounting team. Brings complementary depth in planning, commercial analysis and operating performance.
  • Experience influencing functional leaders through clear evidence, constructive challenge and reliable follow-through, without relying on direct authority. Communicates financial tradeoffs plainly to executives and nonfinancial colleagues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Preferred experience

Experience in private equity-backed businesses, international operations, acquisition integration and lender reporting is strongly preferred. Connectivity, telecom or transaction platform experience and CPA, CMA or MBA credentials are valuable.

What success looks like

  • First 30 days: work with the Controller to keep close, billing and required reporting on track; understand the business drivers, team and systems; identify immediate cash, reporting and control risks.
  • By 60 days: agree a scorecard with the COO covering organic ARR growth, gross and net retention, gross margin, EBITDA, cash and forecast accuracy, alongside close, controls and reporting. Establish reconciled metrics, baselines and a weekly cash view.
  • By 90 days: own the integrated forecast and operating package. Agree and begin executing a cross-functional improvement plan with the COO and functional leaders, quantifying opportunities in pricing, retention, expansion, delivery economics and spending.
  • First-year business performance: share accountability with functional leaders for agreed improvements in gross margin, EBITDA, cash generation, gross and net revenue retention, and organic ARR growth. Demonstrate measurable impact from pricing, customer, delivery, capacity and investment decisions.
  • First-year management discipline: embed cross-functional reviews with the COO, accountable owners and deadlines, and tracked corrective actions. Maintain reconciled ARR and profitability reporting, and support the Controller on timely close, audit readiness and control remediation.
