You have the qualifications. You have the potential. But employers keep asking for something that's difficult to get without being given an opportunity first: real experience.

Our Professional Development Programme is designed to help bridge that gap.

Instead of simply observing or completing simulated tasks, you'll join a working department, receive training and contribute to real projects with real responsibilities.

The goal is simple: when you apply for your next role, you can talk about what you have actually done - the projects you worked on, the responsibilities you took on and the impact you helped create.

Around 450 people engage with our programmes each year, gaining practical professional experience while contributing to our work.

Who are Quilombo UK?

Quilombo UK is an independent social-impact organisation working to tackle inequality, celebrate diversity and help build stronger communities.

We also believe organisations should be prepared to challenge inequality and question companies and institutions when their actions do not match the values they promote.

What will you actually do?

As a Video Editor, you'll work with our team on:

• editing video content for social media, web and other platforms, including documentaries, promotional films and highlight videos;

• reviewing and preparing footage and shaping it into clear, engaging content that supports the intended story and audience;

• working with the creative team to develop the visual style, pacing and narrative structure of video projects;

• adding appropriate sound, music, graphics, titles and effects to strengthen the finished content;

• supporting colour correction, sound design and other post-production activity where appropriate;

• maintaining organised video, podcast and project files so footage and completed assets can be found and reused easily;

• checking completed work against brand, quality and project requirements before delivery; and

• managing editing priorities and deadlines across multiple production projects while contributing ideas to the wider creative process.

You don't need to know everything before you start. Training and ongoing support are provided.

Commission may therefore be paid where your contribution supports eligible successful production, commercial, partnership or other income-generating outcomes. The amount will depend on the nature and value of the outcome and the applicable commission structure.

Commission is not guaranteed and is separate from the unpaid programme.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for someone with:

• practical experience using Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable professional editing software;

• some hands-on video editing or production experience and an understanding of post-production workflows;

• good creative judgement and attention to visual, audio and narrative detail;

• strong organisation and the ability to manage files, priorities and deadlines;

• good communication and confidence collaborating with other creative and production colleagues;

• a proactive approach and the ability to work independently when required; and

• willingness to learn additional tools and techniques as projects require.

Experience with Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid, After Effects, Photoshop, colour correction, sound design or podcast editing is useful but not essential. A relevant film, media or cinematography qualification is an advantage rather than a requirement.

The commitment

This is a 16-week unpaid Professional Development Programme, requiring 12 hours per week across a minimum of two weekdays.

The role is fully remote, offering flexibility around how those hours are organised within the requirements of your team.
