Video Producer (Editorial) - 2 year contract
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Globe and Mail is seeking a creative and audience-focused multi-platform video producer for a two-year contract to help grow our video journalism across social platforms and and Globe-owned channels.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, producing, packaging and publishing original video journalism in a variety of formats. Working closely with reporters, editors, hosts, and the video team, they will help identify stories and bring compelling visual storytelling to them.
This role calls for an organized and entrepreneurial storyteller who understands audience behaviour and the evolving video landscape.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with reporters, editors and hosts to develop and execute original video stories and series.
Identify opportunities for video storytelling across The Globe's journalism and generate ideas for new formats, franchises and audience-focused initiatives.
Chase and research guests for interviews, conversations and recurring series.
Coordinate production logistics.
Prepare briefing materials, background research and interview notes for hosts and guests.
Work with video editors and oversee post-production to ensure strong editorial, visual and journalistic standards.
Publish and optimize content across YouTube and other platforms, applying platform-specific best practices.
Analyze audience and performance data
Work closely with colleagues to identify stories and conversations that are well suited for video formats.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least three years of experience producing, publishing or developing video journalism, documentary or creator-led video content.
Strong news judgment and commitment to journalistic standards.
Excellent research, interviewing and writing skills.
Demonstrated understanding of audience development and engagement across digital video platforms.
Proficiency with Final Cut Pro (preferred) or Adobe Premiere Pro.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, considered an asset.
Familiarity with AI-assisted production, editing and content workflows considered an asset.
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Passion for journalism, innovation and the future of video storytelling.
This position is based in the Toronto office and requires a minimum of two days a week in office.
