Why choose to volunteer with Red Cross?

You can help improve lives and create a positive impact in your community
Gain practical experience in logistics and transport operations
Support Red Cross to assist vulnerable people across Australia
Contribute to sustainability by helping divert products from landfill

The program

Red Cross Shops sell new and donated clothing, accessories and homewares to raise funds to help people in need. Each year, Red Cross rescues more than 450 tonnes of clothing from landfill, provides opportunities for over 5,000 volunteers and generates vital funds to support vulnerable people across Australia and around the world. The Retail Distribution Centre in Derrimut plays an important role in making this possible. Our team supports stores by preparing and distributing essential supplies and stock, helping them operate smoothly and continue raising funds. With the capacity to process over 650,000 kilograms of donated goods each year, the Distribution Centre contributes to both sustainability and humanitarian impact — ensuring items are reused or responsibly recycled wherever possible.

As a Volunteer Driver, you’ll help keep this system moving — safely transporting stock, donations and supplies between the Distribution Centre, stores and partners. Your role ensures the right goods get to the right place at the right time.

The opportunity

As a Distribution Centre Driver Volunteer, you will:

Safely drive Red Cross vehicles to collect and deliver stock, donations and supplies
Load and unload vehicles using safe manual handling practices
Complete scheduled pickup and delivery runs
Ensure goods are handled carefully and delivered to the correct location
Complete run sheets and paperwork accurately
Keep vehicles clean and report any faults or hazards
Represent Red Cross professionally when interacting with stores, partners and the community
Support general Distribution Centre tasks when not driving

You’ll receive training and ongoing support, and you’ll be part of a friendly, practical team environment.

The impact

By safely transporting goods between our Distribution Centre and stores, you help ensure shops stay stocked and operational — supporting their ability to raise funds for humanitarian programs.
Your contribution also helps reduce waste and keep usable goods in circulation.

It’s hands-on, purposeful work that directly supports the communities Red Cross serves.

Application requirements

For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross.
Be a minimum of 18 years of age
You will need to hold a current AUS Drivers License to undertake this role.
