VP, Strategic Business Partner - Business Development

The VP, Strategic Business Partner will drive new revenue opportunities across a focused portfolio of large life sciences accounts.
This senior commercial role combines strategic account development, consultative selling, executive relationship management, and cross-functional leadership.
You will identify high-value opportunities, develop account-specific growth strategies, and promote a broad portfolio of products and services.
The role spans the full business development lifecycle, from prospecting and solution development through negotiation, contracting, and transition to implementation.
You will partner closely with service lines, Marketing, Sales Operations, and other stakeholders to expand relationships and market presence within targeted accounts.
The position also provides opportunities to mentor colleagues and influence teams through matrix leadership and strategic collaboration.
This is a remote U.S. opportunity with travel of up to 50% and a strong focus on the life sciences and consulting services environment.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and execute annual strategic business plans designed to drive new revenue and sales growth across products and services.
- Establish client-specific development strategies and tactical plans aligned with annual business development and sales targets.
- Drive sales bookings and revenue growth across targeted large life sciences accounts.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, particularly senior executive stakeholders.
- Leverage executive relationships to identify, qualify, develop, and advance new business opportunities.
- Engage life sciences clients through individual meetings, group presentations, conferences, trade shows, webinars, and other lead-generation activities.
- Manage the complete client sales cycle, including prospecting, stakeholder engagement, solution development, proposal creation, proposal delivery, pipeline management, negotiation, and transition to implementation.
- Develop executive summaries, presentations, and value propositions that demonstrate the relevance and impact of proposed solutions.
- Anticipate client needs and translate them into actionable business development opportunities.
- Negotiate client deliverables and value-based pricing for new and existing opportunities.
- Coordinate with service line leaders and account management teams to expand cross-selling opportunities and increase market share within targeted accounts.
- Communicate client needs, feedback, and recommendations to internal service lines and relevant stakeholders.
- Initiate organization-wide collaboration to strengthen relationships and expand the value delivered within strategic accounts.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Sales Operations on strategic marketing initiatives, campaigns, and lead-generation activities.
- Represent existing engagement capabilities and innovations through conference and trade show presentations.
- Maintain accurate client and opportunity information within Salesforce.
- Collaborate with service line leaders to inform budgets, forecasts, business metrics, and growth priorities.
- Conduct and direct market research to identify industry trends, competitive developments, emerging opportunities, and potential threats.
- Contribute to pricing strategy and competitive positioning for solutions and services.
- Maintain strong knowledge of developments, products, platforms, and services across the life sciences marketing industry.
- Track competitor initiatives and assess competitive dynamics to inform account and business development strategies.
- Serve as a strategic and operational leader within the Business Development organization.
- Inspire a culture of teamwork, accountability, intellectual curiosity, excellence, and respect.
- Provide matrix leadership and partnership across extended teams using situational leadership approaches.
- Mentor team members on consultative selling, strategic account development, and cross-functional client management.
- Travel up to 50% as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a similar relevant discipline.
- 20+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally in life sciences sales and marketing or professional services organizations selling products, solutions, or consulting services to life sciences companies.
- Demonstrated, sustained success driving revenue growth and business results across multi-year client relationships.
- Proven track record of consistent account expansion and business development success.
- Extensive experience with consultative, insight-focused, and account-based selling approaches.
- Comprehensive understanding of life sciences customer experience, engagement strategies, and commercial dynamics.
- Strong understanding of consulting services and the life sciences industry, including market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and lead cross-functionally within complex organizations.
- Experience managing, mentoring, and developing teams.
- Strong ability to identify, qualify, develop, negotiate, and close complex business opportunities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and solutions clearly and persuasively.
- Strong project management capabilities and the ability to manage multiple opportunities and initiatives simultaneously.

- Annual salary range of $203,000–$304,000 USD.
