Position Summary
As a Water Operator I at Mustang Special Utility District, you will be essential in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of potable water to our residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Your responsibilities will include operating and maintaining equipment such as pumps, valves and light machinery, performing routine inspections, and addressing repairs to maintain the water system’s integrity and reliability. Your role is crucial in maintaining water quality and service reliability, ensuring customer satisfaction, and adhering to regulatory standards.
Essential Functions:
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Assist with daily, weekly and monthly inspections of pumps, motors, chemical feed systems and storage tanks and aquifer levels. Report abnormal alarms and readings to Senior Operator.
- Operational Duties: Support and assist with operation of pumps, valves, motors and chemical feed systems. Observe water flow, tank levels and pressure gauges. Assist with adjustment of equipment under supervision to maintain proper system operation. Record readings from meters and SCADA systems. Pull accurate daily logs under supervision and notify Water Operations Supervisor of any unusual readings. Collect and analyze water samples and perform basic field tests. You will also assist with and learn the installation, maintenance and repair of water mains, fire hydrants, valves and service lines.
- Customer Service: Respond to water quality complaints and assist with proper method of treatment and corrective action. Relay any information to Senior Operator.
Safety and Compliance: Assist with proper operation of system in compliance with TCEQ, EPA and local water quality standards. Assist with the maintenance of all reports and documentation. Stay current on hazard awareness, emergency procedures and best practices.
