Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Water Quality Specialist to oversee water quality monitoring, treatment optimization, laboratory analysis, and regulatory compliance across water infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience in water quality testing, treatment process monitoring, and compliance management for water treatment plants, borehole schemes, transmission systems, and distribution networks. Experience handling donor-funded, NGO-sponsored, or government water projects is highly desirable.

The role requires strong knowledge of drinking water standards, laboratory procedures, and treatment technologies to ensure safe and compliant water supply systems.


Key Responsibilities:

Water Quality Monitoring & Testing:

  • Develop and implement water quality monitoring programs.

  • Conduct routine sampling and laboratory analysis of raw and treated water.

  • Monitor physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters.

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian drinking water standards (NSDWQ) and WHO guidelines.


Treatment Process Oversight:

  • Support optimization of water treatment processes including coagulation, filtration, chlorination, and disinfection.

  • Monitor dosing systems and recommend adjustments to improve performance.

  • Identify treatment inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions.

  • Support commissioning of new or rehabilitated treatment facilities.


Laboratory & Documentation Management:

  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and quality control documentation.

  • Prepare water quality reports for management, regulators, and donors.

  • Support audits and regulatory inspections.

  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.


Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and public health regulations.

  • Develop water safety plans and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Investigate water quality incidents and provide technical recommendations.


Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Work closely with Engineers, Project Managers, and plant operators.

  • Provide technical training to plant personnel on water quality standards and procedures.

  • Support donor reporting requirements related to water quality compliance.



Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • BSc/MSc in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Water Resources, Public Health, or related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in water quality management within water treatment or supply projects.

  • Experience in donor-funded, NGO-sponsored, or government projects is highly desirable.


Professional Certification (Preferred):

  • Relevant professional certification or membership in recognized environmental or water quality bodies is an advantage.

  • Certification in laboratory quality management systems is an added advantage.


Technical Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of drinking water standards (NSDWQ, WHO).

  • Experience with laboratory testing methods and equipment.

  • Familiarity with water treatment processes and chemical dosing systems.

  • Ability to analyze water quality data and prepare technical reports.

  • Understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
