Overview

As the IBM webMethods system engineer, you will be the primary technical owner and subject matter expert for the IBM webMethods platform within the Azure cloud environment. You will handle the end-to-end setup, configuration, deployment, hardening, integration, and ongoing operations of webMethods as the enterprise integration backbone, API gateway, and event-driven messaging layer. This role ensures reliable, secure, and high-performance connectivity across all systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Handle the full lifecycle of IBM webMethods platform deployment on Azure (including Azure Red Hat OpenShift or AKS where applicable).
  • Design, install, configure, and harden webMethods Integration Server, API Gateway, Universal Messaging, and related components (e.g., webMethods Broker, Trading Networks if in scope).
  • Architect and implement high-availability, clustered, and scalable webMethods environments (multi-node setups, load balancing, failover, disaster recovery).
  • Configure secure connectivity patterns: REST/SOAP APIs, event-driven messaging (pub/sub), hybrid integration, B2B gateways, and OAuth/JWT authentication.
  • Implement security and compliance controls for webMethods.
  • Design and automate CI/CD pipelines for webMethods assets (packages, configurations, APIs) using Azure DevOps, Git, and webMethods Deployer or custom scripts.
  • Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and optimization of webMethods runtime.
  • Document architecture, configurations, runbooks, and operational procedures.

    Required skills & experience

  • 5+ years hands-on experience with IBM webMethods platform (Integration Server, API Gateway, Universal Messaging, Broker).
  • 5+ years deploying and managing webMethods in cloud environments, preferably Azure (AKS, OpenShift, VMs).
  • Strong expertise in webMethods architecture patterns.
  • Knowledge of Azure security services relevant to middleware.
  • Hands-on with CI/CD for webMethods (Azure DevOps, Deployer, Git, scripting).
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis skills in distributed integration environments.
  • Excellent documentation, stakeholder communication, and mentoring abilities.
  • Short business travel may be required.
