The Welder is responsible for performing precision TIG welding on various metal components and fabricated assemblies while maintaining MASS Precision's quality, safety, and production standards. This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of hands-on TIG welding experience, with demonstrated proficiency in welding thin-gauge stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals used in precision sheet metal manufacturing.

The ideal candidate must have experience working with tight dimensional tolerances, interpreting engineering drawings and weld symbols, controlling weld penetration and heat distortion, and independently inspecting completed work. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work with limited supervision in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform precision TIG (GTAW) welding on stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and other specified materials.

  • Weld thin- and thick-gauge materials while maintaining required dimensional tolerances and weld quality.

  • Maintain dimensional tolerances of ±.030 inches or tighter when required by engineering specifications.

  • Perform TIG welding on thin-gauge stainless steel while controlling heat input, weld penetration, and material distortion.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and customer specifications.

  • Independently set up and operate TIG welding equipment, selecting appropriate welding parameters and filler materials.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and repair welding defects, including porosity, incomplete fusion, excessive penetration, and distortion.

  • Inspect completed parts and assemblies with little to no supervision to ensure compliance with quality standards.

  • Use measuring tools, fixtures, and gauges to verify dimensional accuracy and weld quality.

  • Perform troubleshooting and problem-solving related to welding processes, equipment, and material conditions.

  • Adjust and align fabricated components as needed to meet dimensional and assembly requirements.

  • Apply appropriate welding techniques to minimize warping, shrinkage, and other heat-related defects.

  • Maintain proper weld penetration, consistency, appearance, and structural integrity.

  • Identify recurring quality issues and recommend corrective or preventive measures.

  • Set up and operate multiple welding processes or equipment within the department as needed.

  • Accurately barcode all jobs and record labor activities for production time management and tracking.

  • Maintain accurate job documentation and production records using Epicor ERP or other designated systems.

  • Assist in training and supporting less-experienced welders as needed.

  • Coordinate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing or welding concerns.

  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and workstations in safe operating condition.

  • Follow all company safety procedures, use required PPE, and practice 6S standards.

  • Support other manufacturing areas when needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
