Assistant / Principal Engineer, FPGA
Description
Assistant / Principal Engineer, FPGA
We are seeking an FPGA engineer to join our mission-critical engineering team. In this dual-function role, you will translate customer and system-level requirements into detailed FPGA specifications, and carry out hands-on FPGA design, verification and system-level integration. You will ensure that FPGA-based subsystems perform correctly within larger electronic warfare, avionics and communication systems.
Be Part of Our Success
Systems Engineering
- Elicit, analyze and manage system-level requirements.
- Define system architecture and allocate requirements across hardware, software and FPGA subsystems.
- Develop system verification plans and traceability matrices.
- Conduct trade-off studies (performance, power, cost, schedule) comparing FPGA against other processing options such as DSP, GPU and MCU.
- Lead design reviews and engage customers on technical specifications.
FPGA Design
- Architect, code (VHDL/Verilog), simulate and implement FPGA designs on Xilinx or Intel platforms.
- Perform synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure and power analysis.
- Develop testbenches and verification environments, including self-checking and coverage-driven verification.
- Integrate third-party and legacy IP cores, and design custom interfaces (PCIe, JESD204B, Ethernet, ADC/DAC controllers).
- Debug FPGA and system-level issues using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes and JTAG debuggers.
Integration & Validation
- Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and system-level integration.
- Work with software engineers to validate driver and firmware interactions.
Documentation
- Produce requirements specifications, design descriptions, verification reports and user manuals.
- Convert software and interface requirements into clear, concise development specifications for firmware and software.
Qualities We Value
Essential
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Systems Engineering.
- 2–3 years of combined experience in systems engineering and FPGA development.
- Proficiency in VHDL (preferred) or Verilog.
- Hands-on experience with Xilinx Vivado/Vitis or Intel Quartus.
- Working knowledge of simulation tools (ModelSim, Questa or Xcelium).
- Familiarity with systems engineering processes (ISO 15288 or similar).
- Understanding of verification and validation (V&V) methodologies.
- Experience with requirements management tools.
- Familiarity with scripting for automation (Python, Tcl or Bash).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with both systems-level thinking and deep FPGA expertise.
- Excellent communication skills, able to bridge technical teams and customers.
- Ability to work independently and lead small technical work packages.
Advantageous
- Understanding of digital signal processing (DSP) fundamentals.
- Exposure to safety and security standards (DO-254, IEC 61508 or similar).
