6-month contract (extendable) backend engineer role in Toronto or Waterloo, ON, hybrid Tue–Thu. The person builds backend services and microservices primarily in Kotlin, alongside Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, REST/SOAP APIs, event-driven architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure Kubernetes Service.

Toronto, ON OR Waterloo, ON – Canada; Hybrid (Tuesday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

6 Months contract with Possibility of extension

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled backend developer with strong experience in modern programming languages and frameworks. The ideal candidate will have:


Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Kotlin, with additional experience in Java (Spring Boot, Spring Security) and JavaScript (Node.js).

• 5+ years of backend development experience, including:

o Unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit), Cucumber, BDD.

o CI/CD tools such as Jenkins pipelines, GitHub Actions, etc.

• Hands-on experience with SOAP, REST APIs, Microservices, and Event-Driven architectures.

• Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and related components for highly automated engineering platforms.


Development Practices

• Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps principles.

• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration.

• Ability to work in environments that emphasize rapid delivery of new features.


Additional Skills

• Exposure to open-source technologies—experience contributing to or leveraging open-source projects is highly desirable.

• Interest in exploring new technologies and building proof-of-concepts for integration into products.
