Camera Assistant

Job Description:

The Camera Assistant will support the Cinematographer and camera crew in capturing the visual essence of the documentary, ensuring that all equipment operates smoothly and efficiently throughout the production process. This role involves assisting with the setup and operation of cameras, managing camera gear, and ensuring that the visual storytelling aligns with the documentary’s objectives.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist the cinematographer and camera crew in planning and executing shots.

2. Set up and operate camera equipment, including cameras, lenses, and other accessories.

3. Maintain and organize camera gear and ensure it is in good working condition.

4. Assist with location scouting to determine optimal shooting angles and lighting conditions.

5. Ensure smooth operation of the camera during filming, including managing focus, exposure, and angles.

6. Help with the setup of lighting equipment to support the cinematographic vision.

7. Ensure all camera equipment is properly stored and maintained.

8. Assist in managing the flow of footage and ensuring it is labeled and logged correctly.

9. Support troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues related to camera and equipment.

10. Monitor camera performance to ensure it meets the required visual quality standards.

11. Collaborate with the cinematographer to ensure that the visual style and composition are achieved.

12. Assist in developing shot lists and storyboards.

13. Maintain safety protocols while working with camera and lighting equipment.

14. Work under pressure and meet deadlines to ensure timely completion of visual production tasks.

15. Foster a positive and collaborative environment within the camera crew.

16. Communicate effectively with other departments to ensure smooth production operations.

17. Provide creative input and support during filming to enhance visual storytelling.

18. Ensure adherence to legal and ethical standards in filming and camera operation.

19. Provide assistance in post-production by ensuring all footage is properly archived and stored.

20. Perform other duties as required by the cinematographer and production team.
