COOP Trainee - Multimedia / Graphic Designer

Discussion

Summary

The trainee will create visual assets such as social media graphics, presentations, digital ads, infographics, and simple motion graphics, learning how brand strategy translates into design while using tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.

Role objective

Turn ideas, briefs and brand objectives into clear, high-quality visual communication across static, motion, presentation, social and multimedia formats, while learning how commercial creative work is developed, reviewed and delivered.

What you will work on

  • Support the creation of social media visuals, presentations, campaign assets, digital ads, infographics, brand applications and other visual communication.
  • Assist with motion graphics, short-form video editing, simple animation and multimedia production where required.
  • Translate a brief into visual concepts rather than waiting for exact design instructions.
  • Apply typography, hierarchy, composition, colour, image selection and brand consistency with attention to detail.
  • Prepare files correctly for digital, presentation and production use.
  • Participate in critiques, explain design decisions, receive feedback and improve work through iteration.
  • Use AI-assisted creative tools responsibly where they improve speed or exploration without sacrificing originality, accuracy, licensing or quality.

What you should learn

  • How brand strategy becomes visual systems and repeatable design decisions.
  • How agency and client briefs are interpreted, challenged and converted into deliverables.
  • Creative workflow from research and concept to production, review, revision and final delivery.
  • How design effectiveness is judged by communication and business purpose, not decoration alone.

Who should apply

  • Student in graphic design, multimedia, visual communication, digital media, animation or a related discipline.
  • Strong visual curiosity and willingness to study references rather than copy them.
  • Basic familiarity with tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Figma, Canva or equivalent is helpful.
  • A portfolio is preferred, even if it consists only of university, personal, competition or experimental work.

What strong performance looks like

  • Can explain the objective behind a design choice.
  • Improves visibly after feedback.
  • Produces organised, technically usable files.
  • Shows taste, originality, accuracy and respect for brand systems.

Common eligibility

  • Current university or college student eligible for a formal cooperative training (COOP) placement.
  • Able to provide the university COOP letter and complete the required training period.
  • Available to work from Jeddah according to the programme schedule and AY work requirements.
  • Comfortable receiving direct feedback, revising work, and learning unfamiliar tools or subjects.
  • Professional Arabic and/or English communication appropriate to the selected role.
  • Previous professional experience is not required. Evidence of initiative, projects, coursework, self-learning, clubs, competitions, volunteering or personal work is valuable.

How we select

We do not reject a trainee simply for lacking a specific commercial tool. We separate quickly teachable tool knowledge from harder-to-teach traits such as reasoning, integrity, learning velocity, ownership, curiosity, discipline and communication. AY does not expect a trainee to arrive as an expert; it does expect visible improvement, preparation and responsiveness to feedback.

Assessment

Every applicant completes the AY COOP Common Potential Assessment (15 questions, 50% of the score) and then the role module for the position applied to (8 questions, 50%). The assessment evaluates potential rather than years of experience: reasoning, learning agility, ownership, ethics, communication and data sense, plus role fundamentals and applied judgment.

About the programme

COOP at AY is designed to identify and accelerate high-potential people, not simply to provide observation hours. Trainees learn by solving real problems, working within clear standards, receiving frequent feedback, and producing useful outcomes under supervision. Our principles: Bayan (clarity), Al-Asl (authenticity), An-Nama (growth), Al-Yusr wal-Yaqin (ease and certainty), and one system, one accountability.

Location: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia | Programme type: College Cooperative Training / COOP | Experience level: Student / Pre-graduation
