Data Engineer
Summary
Contract Data Engineer (£550/day inside IR35) on a UK MOD defence data transformation programme, hybrid based in Corsham with 1–2 onsite days a week. Day to day: assess legacy data catalogue content, design metadata mappings and migration strategies, and build ETL/ELT pipelines with Informatica, SQL and Python; SC security clearance required.

Requirements:- Proven experience as a Data Engineer within large-scale data transformation or migration programmes
- Strong experience with data catalogue platforms, particularly Informatica
- Excellent ETL/ELT development experience
- Strong SQL and Python skills
- Experience with metadata management, data governance and data modelling
- Experience integrating APIs and multiple data sources
- Ability to assess data quality and define migration strategies
- SC security clearance is required for this role
- Desirable experience with Defence or Central Government programmes
- Desirable experience with Microsoft Fabric, Palantir or Snowflake
- Desirable experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices
- Desirable experience with MODNet PUID
- Assess existing data catalogue content, metadata and governance artefacts
- Evaluate migration feasibility from legacy catalogue platforms
- Design metadata mappings, transformation rules and migration approaches
- Build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines
- Integrate data from multiple source systems and APIs
- Work closely with Business Analysts, Data Architects and technical teams to deliver migration outcomes
- Produce technical documentation, migration assessments and risk analysis
