Remote – Anywhere in Australia | 6-month contract
We are seeking an experienced Data Solution Architect to support a banking data modernisation program, moving on-premises data workloads to Snowflake on AWS.
This is a hands-on architecture role focused on defining the target data architecture, guiding migration and modelling decisions, and ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and operationally supportable.
About the role
You will:
Assess current on-premises data landscapes, data flows, source systems and dependencies.
Define target-state data architecture across ingestion, storage, transformation, modelling and consumption.
Design batch, incremental and near-real-time data ingestion patterns across AWS and Snowflake.
Guide the migration of existing data pipelines, transformations and workloads to the target AWS–Snowflake solution.
Define data quality, lineage, metadata, governance and security requirements.
Establish performance, scalability, availability, observability and cost-optimisation principles.
Produce architecture diagrams, solution designs, data-flow diagrams, standards and decision records.
Provide technical leadership, design assurance and architecture governance through implementation and managed-service transition.
Collaborate with customer, engineering, security, governance and managed-service teams, as well as Snowflake and AWS.
About you
You will bring:
Strong hands-on architecture experience with Snowflake, including warehouses, databases, schemas, tables/views, stages, Snowpipe, Streams and Tasks.
Strong AWS data architecture knowledge, particularly data ingestion, storage and integration services.
Deep understanding of data architecture, data warehousing, lake/lakehouse, ETL/ELT, data integration and enterprise data modelling.
Experience migrating and modernising on-premises data platforms to cloud data platforms.
Strong knowledge of dimensional and relational modelling, data products and semantic/consumption layers.
Experience with data quality, metadata, lineage, catalogue and governance.
Understanding of IAM/RBAC, encryption, data masking, privacy and auditability.
Experience with CI/CD, DataOps, monitoring and operational readiness.
Strong understanding of Snowflake performance and cloud cost optimisation.
Banking, financial services or other highly regulated enterprise experience is strongly preferred.
Snowflake and/or AWS certifications, TOGAF, Power BI/semantic models and data governance platform experience are advantageous.
