OVERVIEW
The Dining Room Manager reports directly to the General Manager. This Executive exempt position is responsible for assisting the General Manager in the operation of the service department. Primary duties include customarily and regularly directing the work of other employees within the department, and is given particular weight as to the hiring, coaching, training and development of other employees.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for assisting the General Manager in directing the work of the employees within the department, which includes:
- Suggesting and recommending the hiring, firing and promotion of other employees.
- Assisting in inducting employees to properly staff the service department by reviewing and completing the induction packet information with the employee.
- Responsible for positive guest relations, which includes:
- Presenting a hospitable impression of the restaurant.
- Making each guest feel welcome by cordially greeting them, making them feel important, always speaking in positives and thanking each guest as they leave the restaurant.
- Ensuring that guests receive personalized attention and is perceptive of where to be at any given time to deliver the finest quality food, beverage and service to all guests.
- Responsible for adhering to the proper steps of service, which includes:
- Approaching the guest within a specified time.
- Making sure orders are placed efficiently.
- Checking on guest satisfaction, and promptly presenting the check.
- Conducting service timings periodically, and reviewing with employees.
- Responsible for completing weekly employee schedules based on budgeted labor cost.
- If assigned, responsible for accurate liquor, beer and wine inventory and budgeted costs, which includes:
- Completing extensions properly and maintaining organized storage areas.
- Purchasing products according to standards and maintaining inventory at standard levels.
- Updates inventory sheets monthly with accurate units of measure and pricing.
- Responsible for maintaining Company's employee training standards, which includes:
- Utilizing training manuals, daily training programs, and knowledge checks.
- Assisting in conducting daily sales meetings with employees using a sales planning calendar.
- Periodically conducting refresher classes in food, wine, and service.
- Responsible for maintaining safety and security procedures, which includes:
- Making sure all spills and hazardous conditions are cleaned immediately.
- Making sure doors and safe are locked at all times when not in use.
- Ensuring proper sanitation of work areas, dining rooms, restrooms, etc.
- Responsible for maintaining positive employee relations, which includes:
- Assisting with assessing, counseling and reviewing job performance of service employees to maintain a total employee turnover rate below 50%.
- Promoting effective communication between managers and employees.
- Conducting individual coaching sessions to motivate the team to consistently perform well.
- Presenting a professional and ethical management posture by consistently exercising fair and honest judgment, and assessing problems in a professional manner in order to gain the respect of the employees and co-managers.
- Completes other assignments as directed by the General Manager
