Summary

Hands-on lead engineer role owning the technical direction of a platform: leading and coaching a full stack team, designing microservices/event-driven architecture on the MERN stack, optimizing API/web performance, security, and reliability, and managing delivery timelines while driving safe use of AI tools.

Job Description: We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Lead Software Engineer to own the technical direction of our platform and lead a team of full stack engineers. The role has a strong focus on system architecture, security, and API and web performance, built on microservices and event-driven architecture using the MERN stack. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong project management and communication skills, and actively uses AI tools to raise the team’s speed and quality. Your primary goal will be to build scalable, secure, high-performing systems and lead a team that delivers them predictably.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation.

  • Exciting work environment and challenging projects.

  • Excellent growth opportunity.

Requirements

Technical Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, grow, and coach a team of full stack engineers, staying hands-on with architecture, code, and technical decisions rather than managing from a distance.

  • Conduct code reviews and provide clear, constructive feedback that raises the team’s engineering bar.

  • Establish coding standards, development processes, and quality assurance practices, including testing strategy and CI/CD.

System Architecture

  • Own the end-to-end system architecture of the platform, from API design to deployment.

  • Design and evolve scalable systems using microservices and event-driven architecture, defining service boundaries, integration patterns, and data ownership.

  • Collaborate with product managers and partners to define technical requirements and drive architectural decisions.

  • Document key technical decisions and trade-offs, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.

Performance & Reliability (API & Web)

  • Optimize API performance: latency, throughput, error rates, caching, and query optimization.

  • Optimize web performance: Core Web Vitals, bundle size, rendering, and load times.

  • Build observability across services, including logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting, to ensure high reliability and uptime.

Delivery & Project Management

  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and maintenance.

  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure predictable, high-quality releases.

  • Communicate technical plans, progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

AI & Innovation

  • Drive effective and safe use of AI tools across the team for coding, code reviews, testing, and documentation.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
