Octo Games is an international game development studio with a legal entity in the Netherlands.
We create commercial game projects for the Steam audience and support them at every stage - from the initial idea, script, and visual direction to release, post-launch support, and further development.
Our main focus is Adult Visual Novels and story-driven games, where every scene contributes to the atmosphere, character development, and emotional engagement of the player.
Since 2017, the team has released more than 200 projects and built an international audience around its games.

Today, Octo Games continues to grow while maintaining a flexible approach to work. We make decisions quickly, value initiative, and give specialists the opportunity to influence the final result.
We work remotely and bring together professionals from different countries who are interested in creating atmospheric and commercially successful games.

We are currently looking for a Game Designer to join our F2P project team and take ownership of gameplay systems, progression, economy, and live product development.
In this role, you will work on improving existing mechanics, designing new features, developing the game's meta layer, balancing systems, and creating experiences that increase player engagement and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Review and improve existing gameplay systems, identify weaknesses, and propose growth opportunities.
  • Redesign and optimize onboarding and FTUE to improve player understanding, activation, and early retention.
  • Design and develop the game's meta systems: progression, collections, events, seasons, and long-term engagement loops.
  • Create and improve monetization mechanics and offers integrated into the gameplay experience.
  • Balance gameplay content, including cards, units, rewards, and progression systems.
  • Design and maintain game economy: currencies, sinks, sources, reward pacing, and progression balance.
  • Analyze player behavior and product metrics, formulate hypotheses, and participate in A/B testing.
  • Take features from initial concept through implementation, release, and further iteration.
  • Maintain and update GDDs, design documentation, and balance configurations.
  • Collaborate with the development team throughout the full production cycle.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a Game Designer in F2P projects.
  • Experience designing meta systems, progression, monetization mechanics, and live features.
  • Experience working with onboarding and FTUE improvements based on player behavior and retention metrics.
  • Strong understanding of game economy and balancing principles.
  • Ability to analyze game metrics and work with analytics tools such as Devtodev, Amplitude, or similar solutions.
  • Experience working with game configurations, spreadsheets, JSON, or similar tools for balancing and economy tuning.
  • Ability to independently own features and drive them from idea to release.
  • Willingness to work with adult-themed content as part of the product and monetization model.

Would be a plus

  • Experience with adult games or platforms such as Nutaku.
  • Experience with collectible card games (CCG), PvP card battlers, or similar genres.
  • Experience working on live service products with regular updates and events.
  • Basic Unity knowledge (working with values, configurations, and simple editor changes).
  • Technical or analytical background (mathematics, economics, programming, data analysis).
