Job Description

As a Game Director at Ubisoft Montréal, you will transform a creative vision into a cohesive and captivating gaming experience. You will guide the design team by providing clear direction while fostering experimentation, iteration, and collaboration. You will maintain an overview of the game's progression, pacing, balance, and overall quality to ensure an experience that is fun and aligned with the defined vision.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with creative leadership and the management team to define the game vision and ensure overall alignment.
  • Develop and communicate a clear game design vision throughout production.
  • Lead and support game designers in the creation of game mechanics, progression systems, combat systems, AI behaviors, and other key features.
  • Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to achieve a high level of quality.
  • Collaborate with interdependent teams to ensure consistency between conceptual, technical, artistic, and narrative elements.
  • Discuss budgets and timelines with production and communicate progress and milestones to stakeholders.
  • Adapt design direction based on technical constraints, production realities, and playtest results.
  • Ensure post-launch feature tracking, analyze data, and adjust the game to improve the experience.
  • Stay informed about market trends and technological advancements to evolve practices and share them with other studios.

Qualifications

  • Solid expertise in video game design and leading design teams.
  • Excellent understanding of game engines such as Unity or Unreal, as well as their constraints.
  • Ability to communicate a vision, make informed decisions, and mobilize teams around common goals.
  • Collaborative, empathic, and quality-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw relevant insights for design.
  • Good knowledge of online gaming communities and live streaming platforms like Twitch.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and a passion for the evolution of video games and their market.
