General Surgeon

Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced specialist / consultant general surgeon to join a leading healthcare facility in Oman. The successful candidate will diagnose and manage a broad range of surgical conditions, perform elective and emergency surgical procedures, and provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative patient care while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with general surgical conditions.
• Perform elective and emergency general surgical procedures in accordance with evidence-based clinical practices.
• Conduct minimally invasive (laparoscopic) procedures where qualified and applicable.
• Assess patients pre-operatively, obtain informed consent, and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide comprehensive post-operative care and monitor patient recovery.
• Manage surgical emergencies and trauma cases as required.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Maintain accurate medical records, operative notes, and clinical documentation.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality meetings, and continuing medical education (CME).
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, infection control protocols, and Oman Ministry of Health regulations.
• Participate in on-call duties and emergency coverage as per hospital requirements.

Requirements

Qualifications & requirements

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• MS, DNB, FRCS, Arab Board, or equivalent postgraduate qualification in general surgery.
• Eligibility for or possession of a valid Oman Ministry of Health (MoH) license.
• Minimum 5–8 years of post-specialization experience in a recognized hospital.
• Experience in laparoscopic surgery is highly preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, surgical expertise, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
