Graduate Software Developer, AI & Automation

NewBe an early applicant

Summary

Graduate full-stack developer working directly with the founder of Third Wave BBQ, a growing restaurant and franchise business, building AI-powered tools, operational dashboards, integrations and automation systems. Day to day: using AI coding tools to build, test, deploy and maintain software on Linux VPS infrastructure with JavaScript/TypeScript.

Full Stack, Automation and Business Systems

Third Wave BBQ (www.thirdwavebbq.com.au) is looking for an intelligent and highly motivated graduate to work directly with its founder, building software, AI tools and operational systems across a growing restaurant and franchise business.

This is not a traditional graduate developer role where you will spend months working on a small part of a large corporate system. You will help take business ideas from concept to working software and see those systems used in real operations.

We already have several software and automation projects under development, including:

  • A restaurant and franchise opening operating system

  • AI-powered customer enquiry and reservation tools

  • Internal operational dashboards

  • Compliance, training and audit systems

  • Reporting and financial modelling tools

  • Workflow automation and integrations with external platforms

You will use modern AI coding tools to accelerate development, but you will also be responsible for understanding, testing, deploying and maintaining what is built.

>>> You will not be a cog in the system; you will be BUILDING THE SYSTEM <<<

What you will do

  • Use AI coding tools to build, test, debug and document features

  • Turn business requirements into working software

  • Build software that has never been built before

  • Continue developing our existing applications and internal systems

  • Build integrations, APIs, automations and dashboards

  • Deploy and maintain applications on Linux VPS infrastructure

  • Troubleshoot issues and improve existing systems

What you need

You do not need extensive commercial experience, but you must have built with AI.

You should have:

  • Practical experience using AI coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor or similar

  • Basic knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript and web development

  • Experience with Git, GitHub, APIs and SQL databases

  • An understanding of Linux, VPS hosting, SSH and Docker

  • The ability to read, test and debug AI-generated code

  • Strong problem-solving, communication and documentation skills

  • The discipline to verify your work rather than assume AI output is correct

Experience with Next.js, React, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Docker Compose, automated testing or workflow automation would be beneficial but is not essential.

Who this role suits

This role may suit a recent graduate, final-year student or capable self-taught developer who:

  • Regularly uses AI to build functional software

  • Learns quickly and enjoys solving practical business problems

  • Is comfortable working across software, infrastructure and automation

  • Takes ownership of projects and follows them through to completion

  • Can explain technical matters in plain English

This role will not suit someone who copies AI-generated code without understanding or testing it.

What we offer

  • Direct involvement with the founder and business decision-maker

  • Responsibility for software used in real business operations

  • Broad experience across AI, development, infrastructure and automation

  • The opportunity to build a strong commercial portfolio

  • Increased responsibility and remuneration as your capabilities develop

This is an entry-level graduate position, and the initial remuneration will reflect the candidate’s experience and demonstrated capability.
