Java Developer Contract
Summary
Contract Java Developer role in Newcastle upon Tyne designing and deploying scalable, cloud-native microservices using Java (JDK 11+), Spring Boot, WebLogic Server, and CAS SDK, deployed on AWS with Docker/Kubernetes. Requires TDD, CI/CD, Git, and Agile practices; Kafka, RabbitMQ, and ELK/Prometheus/Grafana are nice to have.
We are looking for a highly skilled Java Developer with strong experience in Spring Boot and microservices architecture to join our growing engineering team. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying scalable, secure, and high-performance enterprise applications in a cloud-native environment.
- Design and develop modular, scalable microservices using Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot
- Build and maintain secure, high-performance integrations using enterprise middleware tools like WebLogic Server and CAS SDK
- Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to deploy applications on AWS cloud platforms using containers (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Support the design and implementation of microservices architecture and ensure seamless integration between system components
- Work closely with QA/test automation teams to ensure functional and non-functional quality (performance, scalability, security)
- Follow and promote best practices such as:
- Test Driven Development (TDD)
- Clean coding standards and code reviews
- Version control and Git branching strategies
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience in Core Java (JDK 11+)
- Proven expertise in Spring Boot and microservices development
- Experience working with WebLogic Server (Enterprise Edition) and CAS SDK
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS)
- Knowledge of containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with RESTful APIs, system integrations, and distributed systems
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
Nice to Have
- Experience with API gateways, messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Exposure to monitoring/logging tools (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Knowledge of security best practices in enterprise systems
