Up to €8K/month | Hybrid | PHP (Symfony)
80% of the global workforce is deskless - people who keep hotels running, factories producing, and care facilities operating. At Dyflexis, we're building the global standard in workforce management for these teams. Managers already trust our software to manage 200,000+ non-desk workers daily, and now we're scaling across Europe and into the US. We need a Lead Backend Developer to guide that growth.
What you can expect
- Lead a fast-growing team of talented backend engineers who collaborate effectively and are hungry to improve
- Join a bootstrapped company that's profitable and reinvesting heavily in its products and people. No VC pressure and lots of autonomy
- Earn up to €8,000 per month based on experience and work hybrid (2 days per week at our offices in Den Haag or Cologne)
What you'll do
You'll own the backend strategy and lead a team of engineers building systems that power Workforce Management for 200,000+ users across multiple regions and industries. Working directly with our Engineering Manager, Technology Lead, and Product Leadership, you'll design architecture that supports ambitious growth without compromising reliability. You'll set the technical direction, empower the team to solve hard problems, and build the capabilities we need to scale across Europe and enter the US market.
This isn't a hands-off leadership role. You'll have the autonomy to make technical calls without long and slow approval chains. We work in focused six-week build cycles followed by two-week cooldowns, giving your team time to build without distractions, reflect on refinements, and prepare for what's next. You'll fix problems before they become tickets, spot architectural issues before they become technical debt, and build systems that stay healthy under enterprise-level traffic patterns.
Your core responsibilities:
- Guide, develop, and inspire 7 backend engineers while making infrastructure decisions that enable scale
- Define backend architecture for multi-region, enterprise-scale deployment
- Translate business requirements into systems that handle multi-region deployment without compromising reliability or compliance
- Lead technical discussions and mentor engineers on distributed systems concepts
- Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, and production reliability
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions that help our clients win. At Dyflexis, we win bigger together.
The tech stack includes
Core: PHP (Symfony), MySQL, Redis, Docker
Real problems: Query optimization, distributed data consistency.
What we’re looking for
You have 7+ years of experience in building backend systems that survive and thrive in production. You know PHP intimately (modern practices, not legacy band-aids) and understand the trade-offs between consistency, availability, and partition tolerance. You've optimized slow databases, debugged race conditions under pressure, and made architectural decisions that aged gracefully as traffic multiplied. You think in systems, not features. When someone proposes a capability, you're already considering failure modes, migration strategies, and operational burden. Like us, you care about code quality and system reliability, not just the number of closed tickets. You're comfortable with ownership - if you ship it, you support it. And you elevate engineers around you by showing them how to analyze problems efficiently.
What you get
You'll earn up to €8,000 per month, work hybrid (2 days/week at our HQ), and join a successful bootstrapped company that heavily reinvests in its infrastructure. No VC pressure, no corporate theater, no feature-factory mentality, and no ivory towers. You'll work in a post-scrum environment that values focus over hasty delivery, with direct influence on infrastructure decisions as the team scales.
- Enterprise clients: every line of code has real operational impact
- 25 vacation days + your birthday off
- In-house chef, ARJ Boxing gym membership, solid pension plan
- 8% vacation pay, option to buy/sell vacation days
