Lead Engineer Backend Java

You will design, build, operate, and scale the event-driven microservices owned by your team. You will develop services using Java, Spring Boot, and JOOQ; build and consume RESTful APIs; and work with SNS, SQS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Aurora. You will deploy frequently through CI/CD, use GitOps and cloud-platform tooling, monitor services with DataDog, and turn user, business, and regulatory needs into secure, tested, documented solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, operate, and globally scale the microservices owned by your team
  • Build services using Java 17, Spring Boot, and JOOQ
  • Expose and consume RESTful APIs
  • Send events using SNS, SQS, and Kafka
  • Use PostgreSQL via Aurora as the primary datastore
  • Deploy services to production through CI/CD pipelines
  • Use GitOps with ArgoCD and cloud-platform tooling
  • Monitor services and investigate issues using DataDog
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to translate user, business, and regulatory requirements into engineered solutions

Requirements

  • Experience building server-side applications
  • Knowledge of relevant programming languages for the backend stack and willingness to learn Java
  • Knowledge of a backend framework such as Spring or Spring Boot
  • Experience building microservices that expose and consume RESTful APIs
  • Experience engineering scalable and reliable cloud-native solutions
  • Understanding of CI/CD and practical Agile delivery
  • Ability to deliver secure, well-tested, and well-documented software
  • Experience integrating with third-party providers and partners
