Lead Product & Brand Designer, Topps.com
Summary
Lead the brand and creative vision for Topps.com, shaping digital experiences for sports collectibles through design, campaigns, and storytelling that engage global collectors.
About Us
About the Role
Help shape the future of Topps.com
Topps has defined the trading card hobby for generations. Now, we’re reimagining how that legacy comes to life digitally.
We’re looking for a Lead Product & Brand Designer to help transform Topps.com from a traditional e-commerce site into a destination for collectors, one that brings products to life through storytelling, content, interaction, and exceptional design.
This is a hybrid product and visual design role. You’ll work across user journeys, commerce experiences, design systems, and brand expression to make Topps.com more intuitive, engaging, and unmistakably Topps. You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Brand, and Content teams to turn functional experiences into memorable ones.
You should be equally comfortable improving a user flow, designing a product page, building a scalable visual system, and exploring how motion or interaction can make an experience more compelling.
A note on portfolios: We want to see strong product and UX work, flows, systems, interfaces, and shipped digital experiences, alongside exceptional visual craft. Portfolios focused entirely on campaigns, identity, or marketing assets without product or UI examples will not be a fit.
What You’ll Do
Product Experience & Commerce
- Design and evolve key experiences across Topps.com, from discovery and product education to purchase and post-purchase
- Partner with Product and Engineering to improve usability, information architecture, hierarchy, and interaction patterns
- Reimagine product pages as collector destinations, even when a product is sold out
- Balance storytelling and visual expression with clarity, accessibility, conversion, and performance
- Prototype new concepts and help teams move from ideas to polished, shippable experiences
Digital Storytelling
- Bring Topps products, athletes, sets, and stories to life through immersive digital experiences
- Explore how editorial content, collecting history, product details, and the broader Fanatics ecosystem can enrich the shopping journey
- Create experiences that build anticipation around launches and give collectors reasons to return
- Translate complex product information into clear, compelling stories
Interaction, Motion & Craft
- Use motion, interaction, and moments of delight to make Topps.com feel more dynamic and distinctive
- Define where expressive design adds value—and where the experience should remain simple and focused
- Push the quality of the work from early concept through final implementation
- Collaborate closely with Engineering to preserve design intent in the shipped experience
Brand & Design Systems
- Translate the Topps brand into scalable patterns for digital product experiences
- Evolve visual systems across typography, color, layout, imagery, components, and motion
- Contribute to a cohesive system that can support different sports, products, audiences, and launches
- Create guidelines that help internal teams and external partners apply the experience consistently
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work across Product, Engineering, Brand, Content, Marketing, and Commerce teams
- Provide creative direction and constructive feedback throughout the design process
- Mentor other designers and help raise the standard of craft across the team
- Identify opportunities, build alignment, and move work forward with limited oversight
Who You Are
- 8–10+ years of design experience with demonstrated product or UX design work
- A hybrid designer who combines strong product thinking with exceptional visual craft
- Comfortable moving from user flows and information architecture to detailed UI and interaction design
- Experienced designing responsive web and e-commerce experiences
- A systems thinker who can create distinctive experiences that scale
- Skilled at translating brand strategy into functional product design
- Comfortable partnering closely with Product Managers and Engineers
- Strong in both concept and execution, from early prototypes to pixel-level polish
- Experienced using storytelling, motion, and interaction to improve digital experiences
- A proactive, hands-on designer who finds opportunities and pushes the work forward
- Passionate about the hobby, or excited to become deeply immersed in it
Why Join Us
Topps has shaped collecting culture for more than 70 years. Backed by Fanatics and exclusive licensing relationships across MLB, the NFL, and the NBA, we have a unique opportunity to reinvent how collectors discover, experience, and purchase the products they love.
The experiences you design will help define the next chapter of one of the most iconic brands in sports and collecting.
What That Means on the Design Team
- We move fast. There’s a lot to build, and we work with urgency while protecting the quality of the experience.
- We design for collectors. Every decision should create greater clarity, excitement, or value for the people using the product.
- We think beyond transactions. Topps.com should be a destination for discovery, storytelling, and collecting—not simply a place to check out.
- We design for scale. Our systems must flex across sports, products, markets, and collector journeys while remaining unmistakably Topps.
- We’re pragmatic. We pursue ambitious ideas and know how to simplify, prioritize, and ship.
- We’re hands-on. We lead through the work, from prototyping and testing to interaction details and final polish.
This is an opportunity to help transform Topps.com into the digital home the hobby deserves, connecting an iconic brand’s history with the future of collecting.
