Principal Consultant - Data Centres & Digital Infrastructure Advisory

We are seeking an exceptional Principal Consultant to join our growing advisory team, with a focus on technical due diligence in data centres and digital infrastructure.
This role offers the opportunity to work on hyperscale and colocation data centre platforms, edge infrastructure, and supporting digital ecosystems (including power, cooling, connectivity and real estate), while also providing exposure to a broader range of infrastructure sectors, including energy, transport and social infrastructure, across high-profile investment transactions and strategic advisory mandates.
Your Role Will Include:
- Supporting the delivery of technical and commercial due diligence assignments for investors, lenders, and developers across the data centre sector (hyperscale, colocation, and edge facilities).
- Assessing design basis and operational performance of data centres, including:
- Power infrastructure (grid connection, redundancy, backup systems)
- Cooling systems (air/liquid cooling, energy efficiency)
- IT load capacity and scalability
- Uptime / resilience standards (Tier classification)
- Supporting investment cases and business plans, including capex benchmarking, lifecycle costs, and expansion strategies.
- Advising on operational performance, asset management practices, and risk identification across portfolios.
- Providing technical and commercial input into bids and pursuits, shaping competitive proposals through robust asset and demand insights to strengthen proposals.
- Working on cross-sector digital infrastructure projects, including telecoms, fibre networks, and energy interface with DC assets.
- Engaging directly with clients, presenting findings that influence investment and financing decisions.
- Participating in site visits and international projects as required.
OUR TEAM
The Investment and Transaction Advisory team has a strong track record of supporting clients at the early stage of projects such as feasibility plans, market forecasts as well as technical assessment of complex projects. As part of the GCC delivery team, the role supports opportunities and projects across Europe, Asia and North America. Our key clients cover a wide range of different organisations in the private and public sectors. Key clients include financial institutions (pension funds, investors and financiers), operators (utilities, ports, rail and mobility) and wider industry.
We are expanding from a strong transport base into new sectors, including industrial clients, major government programmes (e.g. Port Infrastructure Fund, UK Freeports), mobility, and energy infrastructure[RC3] . [RC4] [SG5] WSP has a global network of over 10,500 advisory professionals and 80,000 employees across technical, sustainability and advisory disciplines, enabling our front-end consultancy to draw on deep expertise across transaction advisory (including PPP), investment advisory, market studies, demand forecasting, feasibility studies, and management consultancy.
WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE
Proven experience in data centres or digital infrastructure, ideally within:
Engineering consultancy
Advisory / due diligence
Owner/operator or developer environment
Strong understanding of:
Data centre design and operations (power, cooling, redundancy)
Capacity planning, utilisation, and scalability
Asset lifecycle management and reliability
Experience in technical due diligence or investment advisory for infrastructure assets.
Ability to work on complex assignments and engage with senior stakeholders.
Experience managing workstreams and delivering under tight deadlines.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset across multidisciplinary teams.
Interest in the growth of digital infrastructure and its role in enabling global connectivity and AI/data-driven economies.
