Principal Engineer - Commissioning
Scope of responsibilities
Lead a team of commissioning engineers in carrying out pre-commissioning/commissioning and start-up activities. Provide necessary technical information for the other disciplines during the project. Coordinate the work within the budgeted man hour and project schedule.
Primary duties
- Identify requirements and scope of work, review specifications, drawings and other documents of the project and establish applicability to the scope of work.
- Carry out a detailed assessment of the commissioning work involved and assess the available resources and possible constraints in its execution.
- Ability to review contractual documents and identify project requirements and constraints/risks.
- Provide necessary inputs to commissioning proposals at the bidding stage.
- Inspect and ensure all construction activities are completed prior to taking up the system for commissioning and ensure the setting up of safety procedures for the same.
- Ensure that all safety and precautionary requirements and procedures are followed during the commissioning.
- Responsible to discuss and get the approval of pre-commissioning, commissioning and operations procedures from clients.
- Ability to lead subcontractor for the safe execution of pre-commissioning/commissioning activities in line with the schedule.
- Manage risk as assigned by commissioning manager, project management and/or site management by reviewing risk on a regular basis.
- Hold regular review of risk assessment/meeting with the client on issues such as HSE.
- Be aware of cost monitoring, control expenses, and report overruns to management.
- Be continually present on the field to guarantee the quality and progress of the work.
- Lead commissioning and start-up multi-disciplinary team building project execution.
- Clear punch list items as necessary after checking at site.
- Regularly contact discipline engineers and supervisors for solving problems related to project execution work safely.
- Regularly communicate with sub-contractor execution team.
- Liaise and coordinate with commissioning engineers and provide them support and guidelines for technical commissioning related issues.
- Perform any other related duties and responsibilities as and when directed by the supervisor.
Mechanical
- Ability to produce project specific procedures, preservation and maintenance check sheets, matrix and schedules.
- Ability to find out technical problems associated with rotating/static equipment and mechanical packages/valves are identified and resolved or coordinated with the respective vendor.
- Ability to preserve and maintain rotating equipment after equipment commissioning and start-up.
- Preparation of RFQs and evaluation of vendor technical bids and preparation of technical bid analysis for all specialist services activities.
- Assessing the requirements of special tools/temporary facilities/equipment required for pre-commissioning and commissioning.
- Ability to participate in model reviews of the plant with respect to accessibility and maintainability requirements.
- Ability to perform and guide various activities related to rotating equipment like lube oil flushing, alignment, lubrication, vibration checks, start-up etc.
- Ability to perform and guide various activities related to static equipment like proper installation of internal inside the vessels as per drawing and specifications.
- Ability to perform and guide in air blowing, flushing, leak testing, drying and inerting of various piping.
- Ability to perform and guide in various activities such as mechanical interlock, pipeline pigging activities, spring support, hot and cold setting.
