Project Manager (PMO) - Fixed Term until 1 July 2027
Description
Selwyn Water is a council-controlled organisation delivering drinking water and wastewater services across Waikirikiri Selwyn. We support a growing district with safe, reliable and affordable services, protecting the wellbeing of our communities now and for future generations.
The role
Reporting to the Director Organisational Enablement, you will deliver assigned projects end-to-end within our Project Management Office (PMO). Working with sponsors, business owners and multidisciplinary teams, you will define outcomes, build delivery plans and manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks and dependencies.
You will lead concurrent projects, manage procurement, suppliers and contractors, apply PMO governance and change control, and provide clear status reports and decision papers to sponsors and steering groups.
You will also plan business readiness and operational handover, agree benefits measures with business owners, complete project closure reviews, and share lessons to help improve PMO practice.
What you will bring
- A relevant tertiary qualification (project management, business, engineering, IT or similar), or equivalent project delivery experience.
- At least 5 years’ project management experience delivering concurrent projects within a structured governance environment, including business cases, budgeting, risk, change control, procurement and transition to operations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and communication skills, and the ability to lead teams and influence without direct authority.
- The ability to bring structure to complex or ambiguous initiatives, with high digital literacy across planning, financial tracking and reporting tools.
- A commitment to safe working practices, Selwyn Water’s values and honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
PMP, PRINCE2 or Agile/change management certification, and PMO experience in local government, water, utilities or another regulated environment, would be advantageous.
The opportunity
This fixed term role offers varied work across infrastructure, business improvement and organisational change projects, from initiation through to benefits realisation, for a growing community.
