Psychology Program Manager, Psychology Training Program Director

Summary

Oversee and manage a psychology training program, supervise unlicensed psychologists, and provide clinical psychological services in a VA healthcare system.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The incumbent is a Supervisory Psychologist and functions as the Program Manager for the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) Psychology Training Program. Incumbent is responsible for management, oversight, and coordination of the Psychology Training Program. The incumbent supervises unlicensed Psychologists in the Behavioral Health Service Line; serves as administrative supervisor for the Assistant Training Director in regard to their work with the Training Program; and serves as administrative supervisor for all Training Program supervisors and Training Committee members in their work related to the Training Program. The Program Manager of the Psychology Training Program reports directly to the Chief of Psychology, Behavioral Health Service (BHS). Duties may include but are not limited to: Delegation of authority to approve or disapprove leave; the evaluation and rating of work performance; and recommendations for awards, status changes, and disciplinary actions for psychology supervisees Reviews staffing patterns in the Behavioral Health Service Line to ensure adequate levels of clinical supervision can be provided to incoming trainees. Monitors the quality and quantity of the subordinate staff and trainees work, interviews and makes selections for non-supervisory positions in conjunction with the respective services, hears grievances and serious employee complaints, and reviews serious disciplinary cases and problems involving key subordinates. Consults with specialists on developmental and training needs of subordinates and assures that an effective program of on-the-job training is conducted for both employees and trainees. Collaborates with heads of other units to negotiate, decide on, and/or coordinate work-related changes affecting the Psychology Training Program. Conducts ongoing reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies. Ensures the Psychology Training Program is fully compliant with directives from the VHA National Program Office, Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA), APA, and APPIC. Responsible for monitoring the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of the Training Program. As part of a team effort, incumbent identifies areas for improvement, gathers relevant data, assesses the data, develops and implements ideas for improvement, and evaluates efficacy of improvements. The incumbent develops and maintains a program evaluation component that contributes to increasing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of training provided. Tasked with networking across disciplines at VASNHS and maintaining contact with outside agencies such as UNLV, Nellis Air Force Base, and independent practitioners to ensure an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to training for didactics. Incumbent will maintain Adjunct Assistant Professor status at UNLV and other appropriate practicum affiliations. Serves as a psychologist with full clinical privileges at the VASNHS. Diagnoses mental health disorders, conducts psychological assessments, treats mental health disorders through a variety of approved and evidence-based modalities, and provides adjunctive interventions for treatment of mental health disorders.
