Summary
Senior backend engineer designing and building scalable Java/Spring Boot microservices, event-driven flows with Kafka, and CI/CD on OpenShift/Kubernetes, while owning features end to end, reviewing code, and mentoring junior engineers.
Purpose:
To design, develop, and optimize complex backend systems and services, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and reliability while contributing to technical standards and engineering improvements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
- Own delivery of complex features end to end, from technical design through production.
- Design and optimize database interactions, integrations, and inter-service communication.
- Build and operate event-driven flows using Kafka and enterprise messaging.
- Ensure solutions meet security, performance, availability, and maintainability requirements.
- Apply secure coding practices for authentication, authorization, encryption, and sensitive data handling.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards across the squad.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement durable fixes.
- Contribute to technical design decisions and application architecture.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
- Identify technical debt and drive improvements to design and code quality.
- Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the chapter.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 4 years of backend engineering experience.
- Strong Java, Spring Boot, REST API design, SQL, and Git.
- Hands-on experience with containers, CI/CD, and distributed systems (Good to have)
- Payments or regulated financial services experience preferred (Good to have)
