Salary: RM 8,000 – RM 12,000 per month

CODETRACE is a Malaysian AI smart-manufacturing company and an NVIDIA ecosystem partner. We design and deliver automation solutions across three business units: Machine Vision, Smart Warehouse and Factory Automation. We are headquartered in Shah Alam, with an office in Batu Kawan.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll split your time between building CODETRACE’s own software products and delivering automation projects for our customers. You’ll design system architecture, take products from prototype to stable release, and see your software running on real factory floors and in real warehouses. You’ll also mentor junior engineers and work closely with our R&D, mechanical, electrical and project teams.

What you’ll do

Product R&D

• Design, develop and maintain CODETRACE’s in-house software products and platforms, from prototype to production release

• Turn business and customer needs into product requirements and technical designs

• Define software architecture that can be reused across customer projects and business units

• Manage versioning, releases and long-term maintenance of product software

• Build automated tests and set coding standards to keep products reliable as they grow

• Prototype new features and evaluate new technologies, such as edge AI and AI agents, before they go into the product

Project delivery & integration

• Lead software development for customer automation projects, adapting CODETRACE products to each site’s requirements

• Integrate software with industrial hardware such as robots, cameras, sensors, PLCs and controllers

• Support commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of systems, including on site at customer facilities when required

• Work with project managers on estimates, timelines and technical risks

• Write and maintain technical documentation, including system design, interface specs and user guides

• Feed lessons from deployments back into the product roadmap

Product areas

• Machine Vision / AI: AI vision inspection software for edge devices, covering image capture, inference, model retraining workflows and traceability reporting

• Smart Warehouse: warehouse orchestration software that coordinates AMRs, shuttles and other material-handling equipment, and integrates with customer ERP, WMS and MES systems

Technical leadership

• Lead technical design decisions and review code for quality, performance and reliability

• Mentor and guide junior engineers

What we’re looking for

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field

• 5+ years of professional software development experience

• Proven experience building a software product from prototype to release, not only one-off project work

• Strong programming skills in Python, C++ and C#

• Good software engineering practice: Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and maintainable architecture and API design

• Experience integrating software with hardware or industrial equipment

• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, TCP/IP), SQL databases, Linux and Docker

• Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers

• Comfortable working on loosely defined problems and turning them into working solutions

• Willing to travel to customer sites when required

• Advantage:

  • Experience with automation, robotics or manufacturing software

  • AI/ML deployment on edge devices (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson)

  • ROS

  • Experience building web-based dashboards or user interfaces (JavaScript/TypeScript, e.g. React, Node.js)
