About the Role:
Reporting to the Technical Team Lead, the Senior Software Engineer (React/PHP) delivers technical excellence across ELMO’s platform. The Senior Software Engineer is a skilled technical contributor who can solve complex system challenges while supporting a high-performing, AI-enabled engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Focus:
- Serve as a solid, trusted contributor with a consistent record of independently shipping well-crafted, maintainable software to production in React, PHP and AWS.
- Leverage deep domain knowledge of the business and its products to make conscious, pragmatic trade-offs when shipping features.
- Identify, create, and manage stories to prioritize and reduce technical debt systematically.
Team Collaboration & Leadership:
- Support teammates and leadership proactively to deliver high-quality outcomes consistently.
- Maintain a customer-centric mindset, considering product intent and end-user impact in every technical decision.
- Drive continuous improvement across the product, team environment, and internal processes.
- Build strong working relationships with teammates, team leads, product management, and business stakeholders.
Technical Mentorship:
- Share technical expertise, experience, and learning resources across the team.
- Increase team capability by mentoring engineers, running internal workshops, and sharing best practices.
- Actively assist teammates in overcoming obstacles, resolving blockers, and completing tasks.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, paired with 5+ years of software engineering experience in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Architecture & System Design: Deep understanding of design patterns, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), API design, microservices, and event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka).
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and building scalable, concurrent applications.
- Data & Tooling: Proficiency with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and standard code versioning tools (Git).
- Quality & Reliability: Proven background in security-minded development (OWASP Top 10 awareness), alongside practical experience with observability, monitoring, and debugging production systems.
- Mindset: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the agility to learn and adapt to new programming languages and frameworks as needed.
