Senior Software Engineer
Description
Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played video game in the world, over 100 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.
We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.
That's where you come in.
As a Senior Software Engineer on Riot’s Account and Identity Management team you’ll build and operate the persistent account and identity experiences that help players understand, manage, and control their Riot accounts after sign-up. You’ll work on capabilities such as account settings, Riot ID management, account linking, privacy and communication preferences, parental controls, account recovery, and self-service workflows. You will be serving players worldwide and help evolve regional solutions into reusable global capabilities.
You’ll independently drive multi-month projects from discovery and technical design through launch and production support, collaborating with engineers, product partners, Player Support, and teams across Riot. You’ll write secure, reliable, well-tested services and APIs that your team will be accountable for. You will contribute to a strong engineering culture through design reviews, documentation, and mentorship. The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of software engineering experience or equivalent expertise, experience with backend services and distributed systems, and strong ownership, communication, and technical judgment. Experience with Java or Kotlin, cloud infrastructure, identity systems, OAuth or OpenID Connect, and web security is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and support our workflow services used by millions of players
- Support our suite of mission-critical Java, Kotlin, and Node services at a globally distributed scale
- Partner with product owners and technical leads to build and operate features end-to-end
- Provide high-quality software by writing unit, functional, and integration tests
- Invest in team’s complete ownership of our products by participating in on-call rotation
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in a software engineering role (i.e. software, systems, architecture)
- Expertise in Java, Kotlin, and some familiarity with Node.js / Typescript.
- Experience with the following: microservices architecture, client/service application architecture, API architecture and development
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with “Infrastructure as Code” and tooling like Terraform, Docker and Jenkins
- Familiarity with Cloud Platform providers like AWS or GCP
- Familiarity with web security concepts (OWASP security models, cookies, CORS)
- Familiarity with client / full-stack development
- Expertise operating distributed services at high scale
