The engineer designs resilient infrastructure across networking, virtualisation and enterprise platforms, leads tech refresh and consolidation, and validates DR/resiliency, in a hybrid role requiring NV1 clearance.
Senior Solution Infrastructure Engineer
Paxus is partnering with a large Federal Government environment to engage an experienced Senior Solution Infrastructure Engineer to design and deliver resilient, high-performing infrastructure solutions that support business-critical systems.
This is a senior (EL1-equivalent) contract role focused on technology refresh, workload consolidation, system resiliency, and strong operational readiness.
Key details
- Location: Canberra, ACT (Belconnen area)
- Working arrangement: Hybrid
- Onsite full-time for the first 3 months (or until you're across the ICT landscape and project objectives)
- Then minimum 3 days/week onsite (subject to approval and operational needs)
- Hours: Up to 40 hours/week
- Contract term: To 30 June 2027 with 2x 12 months extensions
- Estimated start: 6 October 2026
- Security: NV1 (Negative Vetting Level 1) is must
Key duties and responsibilities
- Develop and maintain infrastructure roadmaps aligned to business and IT strategy
- Provide advice to leadership on lifecycle management, emerging trends, and investment options
- Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt, optimise cost, and improve value
- Design infrastructure solutions across networking, virtualisation, and enterprise platforms
- Lead/oversee technical designs, consolidation initiatives, and legacy decommissioning
- Validate DR, failover, and resiliency frameworks
- Produce operational documentation to enable smooth handover into BAU teams
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, outcome-focused messaging for stakeholders
- Engage vendors, run proof-of-concepts, and recommend best-fit solutions
- Review infrastructure health/capacity data and recommend hardening and tuning
Technical skills
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous: * Enterprise Server Operating Systems (Windows, Linux/UNIX, AIX) * Virtualisation Platforms and Infrastructure (VMware, Hyper-V), Hyper-Converged Infrastructure * Gateway & Security Services (Proxy, Load Balancing, NGFW, IPS/IDS) * Enterprise and Software-Defined Networking (i.e Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Arista, Aruba/HPE SDN) Firewall networking technologies (i.e. F5 BIG-IP) * Enterprise Database Platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2)
