Summary

12-month fixed-term, Melbourne-based full-stack engineering contract covering the whole delivery lifecycle: building frontend apps, backend services, APIs and integrations, plus CI/CD automation, testing, and monitoring. Stack highlights include Java/Spring, Angular/React (TypeScript), Azure, OpenShift/Kubernetes, Oracle/SQL and Git.

At Hays Enterprise Solutions, our mission is to help organisations thrive by supporting their workforce needs. We partner with over thirty large organisations across Australia and New Zealand providing tailored solutions to ensure our clients have unrivalled access to top talent and unique market insights to build their evolving workforces.

Our client is seeking a Software Engineer | Full Stack & DevOps to join their Technology team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Based in Melbourne, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional support to the business.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys working across the full software delivery lifecycle, from designing and building solutions through to testing, deployment and ongoing support. You’ll work across frontend and backend development while contributing to DevOps, automation, CI/CD and shared platform capabilities.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain platform products, internal tools and shared services.

  • Build frontend applications and self-service experiences alongside backend services, APIs and integrations.

  • Develop reusable components, libraries and engineering patterns that improve consistency and reduce duplication.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and software delivery tooling.

  • Embed quality throughout the engineering lifecycle through unit, integration and automated regression testing.

  • Support monitoring, logging, observability, troubleshooting and operational health.

  • Work closely with architecture, security, infrastructure and delivery teams to build scalable and supportable solutions.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving engineering practices across the team.

  • Troubleshoot issues across applications, APIs, integrations, data layers and deployment pipelines.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify solutions, reduce technical debt and improve reliability and delivery.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll be a well-rounded engineer who understands how good software is designed, built, tested, deployed and operated. More importantly, you’ll bring a strong engineering mindset and the ability to solve problems independently.

Ideally, you’ll bring experience across areas such as:

  • Full-stack software engineering across frontend and backend development.

  • Java / Spring.

  • Angular / TypeScript and/or React.

  • APIs and integration technologies.

  • Messaging and integration platforms such as IBM technologies or Apache Camel.

  • Database querying, including Oracle / SQL.

  • Source control using Git.

  • Microsoft Azure, with AWS or GCP experience also relevant.

  • Containerisation technologies, particularly Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes.

  • DevOps practices, CI/CD and deployment automation.

  • Automated testing and quality engineering practices.

  • Mobile development exposure, including iOS/Swift or Android, would be valuable.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical software engineering experience.

Why join our Client?

You’ll have the opportunity to work across a broad engineering landscape rather than being restricted to one narrow area. You’ll contribute to platform capabilities used across multiple teams while helping improve developer experience, automation, reliability and engineering standards.
